Jack Harlan Connor, 88, of Baytown,Texas went to be with the Lord on May 17, 2012, in Temple, Texas. He was born in Vinson, Oklahoma to the late Edwin E. Connor and Inice E. Francis. Jack attended Texas A&M University from 1940 to 1941. In 1941 he joined the Naval Reserve, graduating Midshipman School in Plattsburg, New York as Ensign in June 1944. Jack served his country during WW II in the Pacific Theater where he volunteered for extra hazardous duty. He returned home as Lieutenant JG in 1946, service awards received included the American Theatre of War, the Asiatic-Pacific Area, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Philippine Liberation. He graduated from University of Houston in 1950 with a BS in Science. He settled into a career as a school teacher with the Pasadena and then La Porte school districts from 1960 to 1982.
His family and friends will remember him for his gentle and generous ways, for his love of God and Country, and animals.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Patsy McCullen, his wife Mary Patsy Muller Connor. He is survived by is daughters, Maree Sarow and Melissa Hodge; his son, John Connor; his grandsons, Zachary Hodson and John Austin Connor; granddaughters, Heather Connor, Katherine Sarow and Amie Sarow.
In lieu of usual remembrances, it is the family's wish that donations be made in his memory to William R. Courtney TSVH attention Sue Nelson (noted "in memory of Jack H. Connor"). The William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home in Temple opened in 2000 and provides first-class long term care for up to 160 residents, including up to 32 Alzheimer's residents in a separate, secured unit. Created and operated exclusively for Texas veterans, their spouses and Gold Star parents, the William R. Courtney Home offers superior care that is Medicare and Medicaid certified.
A memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home, 6123 Garth Rd., Baytown, Texas 77521, phone 281-839-0700. Visitation will be from 4:00pm -5:00pm, the service will be at 5:00pm.
