James was born in Houston, Texas. He lived in Deer Park, Texas for a number of years. He graduated from Deer Park High School in 1994 as a Texas Scholar and a National Honor Society Student. After briefly attending San Jacinto Junior College, James decided that he really wanted to join the military and did so. James was totally devoted to his military career. He was stationed at Kadena AFB, Okinawa for two years and then went to McGuire AFB, New Jersey where he served honorably for the past 12 years. He was an instrument flight control scheduler for several years and then a maintenance training scheduler before he died.
When he wasn't working, James was an avid movie fan, football fan and loved reading.
