John Ford Obituary

Retired Army Sergeant First Class John D. Ford, of Lamar, Mo., passed away peacefully in Baywood Crossing Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center of Pasadena, TX on Saturday, October 5, 2013. Visitation will be on Thursday Oct. 10, 2013 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and the funeral service will be, Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. both in Pasadena Funeral Home, 2203 Pasadena Blvd., Pasadena, TX. Burial will be in Houston National Cemetery in Houston, TX with full military honors. John was born September 11, 1927, in Lamar, Mo., and was a member of Sheldon High School's class of 1945. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1967, as a Sergeant First Class with 22 years of military service, having served tours at Fort Ord, Ca., Fort Leavenworth, Kn., in Germany, Korea and Panama. He was awarded numerous awards and decorations, the most notable being the Silver Star for gallantry in action earned while serving in Korea, Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart. Upon retirement, John began a very enjoyable, second career in referral services, working for Tombs & Son, Referral Services providing food and maintenance services for military bases. To his family he was a self-taught, jack of many trades, who had an insatiable desire to learn about new technologies, like Wi-Fi, computers, smart TVs and the internet. He left behind a legacy built on personal appearance and continuing education through reading. He was preceded in death by his father, John Albert Ford and mother, Eva Ford. He is survived by his wife, Doris del Carmen Ford, daughters, Linda Hayes, Sandra Campos, Doris Ford and Julie Lockey; sons Lyn Michael Ford, John Warren Ford and John D. Ford Jr.; step daughters, Mary Ann Bence and Katherine Lopretto; step son, Jean Michel Garcia; daughters-in-law, Sheila Ford, Nadyne Ford and Rosana Garcia; sons-in-law Carlos Campos, José Aguilera, Randy Lockey, Robert Bence and Antonio Lopretto; 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers please send donations to your favorite non-profit organization serving our nation's veterans.
