John Lawrence Taylor was born on February 23, 1941 in Eleanor, West Virginia, and passed away July 23, 2015 in Deer Park, Texas. John graduated from Poca High School, Poca, West Virginia, in 1959 and soon after joined the Marines. He transferred to the Air Force where he continued his military career. John received The Meritorious Service Medal accompanied by a monetary award; and a personal letter from President Jimmy Carter thanking him for his contributions in making government operations more efficient. He retired from the Air Force with an Honorable Discharge in 1981. John then used his talents as a fuel specialist for SGS Control Services in Deer Park, Texas. He possessed exceptional skill in automotive paint and body work. He was an avid golfer, a member of Baywood Country Club, Pasadena, Texas, and later joined The Battleground in Deer Park. He was the Senior Club Champion in Deer Park for several years. John attended First Baptist Church of Deer Park and First Baptist Church of Pasadena. John is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carolyn Sue Taylor; two daughters, Penny Snell and husband Mark and Carol McDonald and husband David ; his sister, Lois Covington and husband Wyamon and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Lula Taylor, as well as several brothers. A private, family service was held at the Houston National Cemetery on 5 August 2015. Our family appreciates all of the prayers, cards, and expressions of sympathy during this time of loss. John would have been touched by all of the condolences from his friends and family. We will all miss John very much.
