Joyce Adalene Scanlin, 88, passed away peacefully during her sleep on January 9, 2017. She was born October 9, 1928 to Philip Alexander Smith and Virgie Mozelle Bearden in Houston, Texas. Joyce was very active in church, teaching Bible Study, Vacation Bible School, Women's Missions and taking taped sermons to shut-ins for many years. She loved crocheting baby booties, afghans, and pillows for her 16 grandchildren and many church friends. She made cross stitching blankets, and baked the best pies for all. Joyce is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Joe Pete Scanlin, her parents, and her brother, Kenneth Rue Smith and her sister, Laquita Nell Gradig and her son-in-law Donnie Smith and great-granddaughter Raelyn Cutbirth. She is survived by her 5 daughters; Phyllis Kresch and husband Chas, Gail Lewis and husband Curt, Virgie Cutbirth and husband John, Debra Marine and husband Tom, and Karen Smith. Joyce is further survived by 16 grandchildren; Kathryn Kresch, Susan Kresch Terese and husband Tom, Kristin Kresch Zay and husband Jonathan, Amanda Lewis Daniels and husband Toby, Kevin Lewis and wife Elisabeth, Robin Lewis, John M. Cutbirth and wife Kim, David Cutbirth and wife Jenni, Daniel Cutbirth and wife Lindsay Jean, Kari Cutbirth McBride and husband Jonathan, Jennifer Marine Moreno and husband Daniel, Matthew Marine and wife Hollie, T. J. Marine, Megan Smith Jones, Amy Smith Trudel and husband, John, Kimberly Smith Willis and husband Justin and 28great-grandchildren. Joyce is survived by two beloved brothers Gene Alman Smith and Philip Larry Smith and their wives Linda & Terry and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. Visitation will be Friday at noon prior to the Celebration of Life at 1:00. Services will be conducted by Reverend Brannon Revel at SouthPark Funeral Home 1310 N. Main, Pearland, TX.
