Marshall Nelson "Mo" Smith was peacefully called Home to be with the Lord on July 30, 2018 at the age of 62. His laughter, sense of humor, kindness and zest for life will be greatly missed.
Born December 23, 1955 in Falfurrias, Texas, Marshall grew up in Fort Stockton where he developed friendships that would last a lifetime. He graduated from high school in 1974, attended Angelo State University where he was active in the traveling chorale group, The Entertainers. He transferred to Southwest Texas State University earning his BS Degree in Elementary Education in 1979. That same year, Marshall began a career in education in Deer Park ISD that would last until his retirement in 2010. During this time, Marshall was a classroom teacher, PE Coach, lead teacher and counselor. He also earned his Master's Degree from the University of Houston CLC. Mr. Smith made a tremendous impact on each student, parent and colleague he encountered.
Marshall was raised in church and remained active until his passing. He was deeply rooted in his faith in Christ, giving thanks daily for blessings and relying on the Lord during times of struggles. He used his beautiful voice in church singing solos and with choirs, as well as during school events, weddings, funerals and just hanging out with those he loved. The Heavenly Choir is stronger, and louder, now that he's a member!
Marshall is survived by his three sons, Ian, Jordan (Heather) and Brittan, three grandchildren, Violet, Kaysen and Jade, his mother Gloria Smith, father Chester (Carolyn) Smith, sisters Terri (Dan) Langen, April Holden, Kathy (Steve) McDaniel, Cindy Springer and Elizabeth (Mike) Riddle, brother Kevin (Kay) and brother in law Lawrence Wilson. Marshall also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his extended family and many friends. Marshall is predeceased by his sister Charlotte Wilson, nephew Tommy Holden, niece Summer Holden and brother in law John Holden.
Marshall did not want a formal service. Instead, he wanted his loved ones to celebrate life every day the way he did--BIG! The family held a remembrance celebration on August 4 at the home of Kevin Smith where lots of love and plenty of laughs were shared.
Memorial donations in memory of Marshall may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, your local Hospice or a charity or church of your choice.

Marshall´s memory and presence are as vivid and real now - 5 years after his passing - as ever. He impacted every soul he encountered and a few of us had the privilege to know and walk with him for a lifetime. Listen closely and you can still hear that booming voice and see him laugh. There was only one Mo and he can never be duplicated - what a blessing to call him friend and brother. I love Marshall Nelson Smith. See you soon, brother.

No was truly a one of a kind man that knew no boundaries of love and laughter. He was taken too early from this life but the angels have to be rejoicing. As my brother he was so unique and I still miss him terribly. My heart hurts every time I think of Mo and want the best for the family he left behind. Hope that anyone who reads this after 3 plus years remembers him the same way I do with love and affection. Miss my brother a lot he was such a good man and a heart as big as Texas

It has been a tumultuous 2 years with Marshall passing away. I never thought I would still hurt like I do missing him and knowing the struggles he had to overcome for 40 years. He overcame by being such a cut up everyone loved him but deep inside he always struggled with the issues the Lord gave him physically to handle. I thought it would be OK when he passed because he did not hurt any longer but he and I get so close there at the end that is seemed to rekindle the brother connnection that is normal. I miss my brother terribly but find comfort that he is not hurting any longer. Rest In Peace brother and tell Dad and Charlotte we think of them often as well
