Hurricane Carla hit the Texas Gulf Coast in September 1961. My Mom and Butch's Mom, Francis were very good friends. Since their home on Battleground Road, right near the Monument Restaurant, totally blew away, my Mom invited Butch to come and stay with us until his Mom could get settled and he could return home with his family. I was not too happy with that situation because I had to give him my bedroom (I was 18) and I shared with a sister. But, it was a good experience for us all. Butch and I went to inspect the damages to their home. Butch found his high school annual but it was a mess so he did not take it. It was sad. Butch became like a brother and we had a lot of fun during his stay with us. He joined in with our family just like he had been there his whole life. I think he liked being with us too. I do remember also how he treated his Mom, with such respect, love and kindness. Very sweet guy. My sympathy goes out to the whole family.

Mike was a very nice man. I went to school with him and liked him so much. He was and always will be an example to the younger generation. God bless you Mike and your Family. I know you are already in Heaven. Save me a spot Mike.
