Olen Earl Dexter, 94, passed away June 15, 2017. He was born August 14, 1922 in Iuka, Mississippi.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Dexter, daughters Glenda Marsh (Greg) of Glen Rose, Texas and Gayle Holder Carter (Eddie) of Pasadena, Texas. Carol Dunkel (Bob) of Longmont, Colorado and Darlene Huffman (Denny) of LaPorte, Texas. Known as "Papaw"to his Grandchildren, Brandon Marsh (Amy), Chad Marsh (Lori), Ryan Holder (Elyse) James Richmond (Megan), Daniel Richmond (Jenn), Granddaughter Alycia Miller (Chris). Great grandchildren Reagan Marsh, Layla Miller, Alex and Andy Richmond, Sawyer and Finn Richmond. Sisters Grace Brawner and Dot Lucas, brother, Dee Dexter.
Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Mamie, "Virginia" Dexter, Parents Daniel and Ina Dexter, Sisters, Eleanor Johnson, Mary Dexter, brother, Garfield Dexter.
Earl served in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. Earl, Mamie and Glenda moved to Texas in 1950. He owned his own trucking company and also worked at Diamond Alkali for 30 years receiving a perfect attendance award for 25 years.
Although Earl did not have a formal education there was nothing he couldn't build, repair, grow in the garden, or would do for his family and friends. He was a gentle giant with a heart of gold and his favorite hobby was time spent with his buddies at the deer lease every deer season for 50 plus years.
Earl was a longtime member of Southmore Baptist Church in Pasadena and at the time of his passing was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.
The family would like to express sincere appreciation for the loving care he received from his caregivers, Dwayne and JoAnn and from his caregivers and nurses from Hallmark Hospice, Tymali, Babs, Patti and YaYa.
Visitation will be held from 3-5 pm on Sunday, June 18th and the Funeral Service at 10 am on Monday, June 19th, both at Niday Fairmont Funeral Home in Pasadena. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale.

To Gayle and Glenda, our heartfelt sympathies to you all. While we never got the opportunity to meet your dad, the memories you and Ryan have shared make us feel as if we did. Peace has now come to him, and may you all find comfort as each day passes.
