Paul Daniel Hight, 81, went home to join his Lord and Savior March 12, 2016 after struggling for several weeks with meningitis. He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Jan Alayne Hight, his parents, Paul R. and Minnie B. Hight of San Antonio, and his brother, Charles Wesley Hight of San Antonio.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Karen Hight of Pasadena, Texas, his granddaughter, Andira Hight of Pasadena; grandson, Sean Hight of Atlanta, Georgia; sister, Linda V. Rambsel of San Antonio, and former wife & dear friend, April Coon of Eagle River, Alaska.
Paul was born in San Antonio, Texas, where he lived until soon after he graduated from Luther Burbank High School, Class of 1952. He moved to Houston, working for the National Guard, then Armco Steel, General Electric, and finally Lowe's Home Improvement, in East Houston. An avid country music musician, he played guitar professionally for many years, all over Houston, the state of Texas and the nearby states of Louisiana and Arkansas with his friend, Dale Oliver, as part of "Dale and Paul, the Western Cousins." The popular duo had a radio show in the 1960's, and a couple of 45rpm records. Later, he performed with local country bands including Pure Country, featuring Neal Hart. He was a talented singer and 'picker', a gifted and charismatic entertainer.
A dedicated born-again, Baptized Christian, Paul ardently lived for Christ. He loved sharing the Lord and witnessing for Him with all whom he met, plus family, friends and co-workers.
Paul was also a gifted artist, delighting family and co-workers with his personal cartoons and cards. He had some formal training as an artist, and his talent lives on in his grandson, Sean.
