Phyllis died on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at Nexus Hospital, Montgomery County after a long illness with C.O.P.D. She was born in Mt. View, OK on September 30, 1934. Phyllis is predeceased by parents Claudie and Fay Chambless; brother Clayton Chambless, and sister Catherine Wilson of Middletown, IN. She is survived by husband Elton Lee Gilbert of Montgomery (Bentwater), TX formerly of Lufkin and Pasadena; daughters Brenda Holden and Jackie Juday and husband Manuel of Irving, TX; brother Fred and wife Charlotte, of Humble, TX; brother David and wife Donita of Middletown, IN; sister Diane McCallister of Middletown, IN; sister-in-law Ladonna Chambless of Middletown, IN; brother in law J.T. Gilbert of Lufkin, TX; grandchildren Kim, Vera and Heather; 10 great-grandchildren; 4 step children; several nieces and nephews; special friend Lynda Godwin; and a host of other friends.
Phyllis was a former member of the Assembly of God Church, Pasadena, TX; Bentwater Ladies Organization, B.L.G.A. and B.C.A. She was an accomplished bowler and participated in several Houston Area, State and National tournaments. She loved boating and fished all the major Texas Lakes and was an avid golfer. She loved the outdoors and cooking for her family. She will be sorely missed.
As per her wishes, Phyllis will be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held at the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home, 10129 FM 1097 W, Willis, TX on Thursday, October 20 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the American Heart Association or the National Pulmonary Association in Phyllis' honor. Thanks to all the medical personnel at the St. Luke's, Memorial Hermann, and Nexus Hospitals for their care. Special thanks to Dr. Ather Siddiqi, Dr. George Nasser, Dr. Lin Wang, Dr. Leornardo Palau and their staff for their care over the years.
