Rex Deryl Lewis

Rex (Deryl) Lewis, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully on the 4th of September 2013.

Deryl was born in Henrietta, Texas along with his identical twin brother, Max Jeryl Lewis, on July 23rd, 1931 to Archie L. Lewis and Mabel (Ruth) Lewis. A longtime resident of Deer Park, Texas, he lived with his wife, Wilma F. Lewis.

Born during the Great Depression, Deryl valued all of life's gifts and was an avid recycler. He could do almost anything himself, from building, to plumbing, to the fixer of all. He developed a keen interest in cars and was often seen being the shade-tree mechanic for neighbors, friends and family. Even with his shy demeanor, Deryl was quick witted and quick to share a laugh with family and friends. It was once told that while in high school Deryl and his brother Jeryl switched places during an evening with their dates only to be found out due to the different color of their socks. Deryl shared his enduring faith and served as a deacon at the Southside Church of Christ in Pasadena. He was a man of honor and integrity, a hard-working, loving man of God. His loving and tender heart will forever be remembered.

Deryl graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1950. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Midwestern University in 1954. Deryl honorably served his country in the United States Naval Reserves from 1950-1954. Later in 1954, he met Wilma F. Duty and they married in 1955. He worked at City National Bank in Wichita Falls from 1954 - 1965. Then they left north Texas and moved to Deer Park, Texas in 1965 where he worked at Rohm and Haas refinery for 31 years until his retirement in 1996. In 2001 Deryl and Wilma moved to Keller Texas where they lived near their son until late 2012 when they returned to Deer Park.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Wilma Frances Lewis, and their two children: daughter Donna Hamilton and husband Robert of Deer Park; son Ken Lewis and wife Regina of Keller, Texas; his brother Jeryl Lewis and wife Rita of Wichita Falls, TX. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kimberly Andrews of Deer Park, Leann Santiago of La Porte, Julie Sorensen and husband Jeremy of Houston, Ashley Lewis and Kelsey Lewis of Keller; and 5 great grandchildren; Rachel Andrews, Ricky Santiago, Alyssa Santiago, Isabella Santiago, and Presley Sorensen along with numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 2 - 4 PM on Sunday, September 8th, 2013 at the Rosewood Funeral Home, 3939 Pasadena Blvd., Pasadena Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Monday, September 9th, 2013 at Southside Church of Christ, 4110 Preston Ave. in Pasadena, Texas with interment to follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.
