Robert Earl James Jr. age 73 of Spicewood, TX passed away on Friday, August 12, 2011 in Houston, TX. He was born on September 12, 1937 to Robert E. James Sr. and Ahmonilla (Howell) James in Shreveport, LA. Robert previously lived in Pasadena, TX but made his home in Spicewood, TX for the last 12 years.
Robert is survived by his wife of 55 years and 8 months Alta Marie (Smedley) James; three sons Robert E. James III (Cherie) of LaPorte, TX., Greg A. James Sr. of LaPorte, TX; Scott D. James (Rita) of Spicewood; brother Ormond James, sister Ahmonilla Nichols. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his father R.E. James Sr.; mother Ahmonilla James, brother Oscar James Sr. and daughter-in-law Janis K. James.
Robert graduated from Pasadena High School in 1956 and attended Central Technical Institute. He married his high school sweetheart Alta Smedley on January 25, 1956. He was a State Farm Agent for 31 years in Pasadena and was retired for the past twelve years. He was a 31 year member of the Pasadena Noon Optimist Club and was a 12 year member of Spicewood Baptist Church. Robert enjoyed fishing, bowling, camping, and golf.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 16; 6-8 p.m. Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Marble Falls. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, August 17, 10 a.m. at the Spicewood Baptist Church with Pastor Bill McCormick officiating. Interment will follow at Haynie Flat Cemetery in Spicewood. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Spicewood Baptist Church. Pallbearers named were Andrew Benavides, Gregory James, Jr., Randy Wheat, Robert Wheat, Mat Payne, Bobby James, Philip Carr, and Stacy Graham. Honorary pallbearers named were Ray Cananles, Billy Perez, Troy Middleton, Roger Criswell, and Eddie James. Condolences may be offered to the family by visiting www.clementswilcoxfuneralhome.com.
