PASADENA- Robert (Bob) Wilton Neely, 84, died Wednesday, February 6, 2019 in Pasadena, Texas, following health complications.
He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Lillian May (Kelner) Neely; his son Robert Alan and wife Lara of The Woodlands, Texas; his son James and wife Meyoung of Gravel Ridge, Arkansas; his son John and long-time girlfriend Sandy Palmer of Benton, Arkansas; and seven grandchildren: Jordan Neely, Aidan Neely, Juliana Rhea, Danielle Carroll, Fauna Dee Neely, Nicholas Neely, and Angus Neely. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as, his brother, Jimmy Neely.
Born and raised in Warren, Arkansas, the son of Aubert and Robbie Zell (Thurman) Neely, he graduated from Warren high school in 1952 and joined the U.S. Navy, where he was proud to have served as a Second-Class Petty Officer on three different ships in the Repair Division. He lived in Hawaii and New Mexico before settling in Pasadena, Texas, where he worked as a welder and lived over 50 years.
Bob earned several degrees as a Boy Scout, was a 32nd Degree Master Mason, spent many years involved in the American Legion, and volunteered as a Salvation Army bell ringer. For 22 years, he volunteered for Shriner's International through the Grand Lodge of Texas. He had a passion for motorcycles and enjoyed traveling with his wife and family. He also enjoyed gardening and being outdoors.
Bob was a long-time member of the Sunset United Methodist Church and an endowed member of Archives Masonic Lodge #1399 for 49 years. He had two favorite Bible verses that meant more and more to him as he neared the end of his life. Matthew 11:28 (NIV) "Jesus said, come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest," and Psalm 122:1 (NIV) "I rejoiced with those who said to me, 'Let us go into the house of the LORD.'"
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 14th at Shield of Faith Church, 823 Seydler Street, East Bernard, Texas 77435 at 10:30 AM, with lunch to follow in the reception hall. A private graveside service will be held later. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Sunset United Methodist Church, 709 Allendale, Pasadena, Texas 77502, ATTN: Memorial Fund, Bob Neely.
