Roy Fred Blum

1933 - 2020

Roy Fred Blum, 87, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on November 23, 2020. His wife of 60 years, Betty Krueger Blum, was with him in his final hours.

Roy was born on March 8, 1933, in Floresville, Texas. He left the family farm in 1952 to join the Navy. He served primarily on the USS Shields as Teleman 2nd Class, where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, China Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service medal.

Following the Navy, Roy had a 32-year career with the U.S. Postal Service in San Antonio and Pasadena. He also served in several roles with the National Association of Letter Carriers, including president and secretary of Branch 3867. For nearly 30 years, Roy lived on his own postal delivery route and knew all of his neighbors well from his daily visits.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Blum and Linda Barosh Blum; sister Allene Deskin and husband James; sister Ruby Tieken and husband Roy; brother Walter Blum and wife Gloria; and twin brother Ray Blum.

In addition to his wife, Roy is survived by his sister Lindell Goyen and husband Ivan; Sister-in-law Dee Blum; and his children: Elizabeth Schacherl and husband John; Doug Blum and fiancé Toni Gatreaux; Randy Blum and Lettie Robles; and, Brenda Brinkley and husband Tripp; grand-children Robin Smith and husband Travis; Allen Schacherl and wife Shannon; Travis Schacherl; Misty Brinkley and fiancé Jay Raynor; Heather Dimmick and husband Ashton; Ethan Brinkley; Justin Blum; Destinee Ayala; Madyson Blum; and, Hannah Blum; as well as great-grandchildren Hayden Smith, Landon Dimmick, Elizabeth Schacherl, and Lillian Schacherl.

Roy will be missed dearly by his family and many friends and acquaintances.
