Selmon Arnold Atkinson, born May 31, 1923, passed away on December 1, 2011. He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Ulysses Atkinson, Brother Vernon, sister Georgia, step-son Don Houston Payne, Sr., granddaughter Beverly Jo, great-granddaughter Felicia Rae, and his loving wife of 46 years, Mrs. Alma Atkinson. Mr. Atkinson proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Army.
He is survived by his step-children, Robert R. Payne, Zona F. Payne, Jackie D. Cornelius, and Debbie L. May; grandchildren, Walter R. Payne, Maria Pruitt, Don H. Payne, Jr., Richard Payne, Lloyd S. Payne, Leeda Dee Powell, Dana Lee, Rayford Stryon, Theresa Swindoll, Terry Swindoll, Jr. and Michael Swindoll; great-grandchildren, Nephew Kurtis Atkinson, Niece Susie DeWoody, and a host of other family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Pasadena Funeral Chapel, with burial to follow at Houston National Cemetery. A gathering of friends and family will take place from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday December 6, 2011 at Pasadena Funeral Chapel.
