Shellie Martin Obituary

Shellie Leigh Martin was called to the Lord after a brief journey with cancer on September 21, 2018. She was 46 years old. She was born in Houston, TX on February 18, 1972 to John and Carol Richardson. She graduated from Dobie High school in 1990, and completed her BA in Education with a minor in Art from the University of Houston in 1996.

Shellie was a kindergarten and first grade teacher at Mae Smythe Elementary for 22 years and had a tremendous influence on the children and families she taught. Her mix of discipline, love, and encouragement helped to mold numerous children that often came to visit her after graduation from college and beyond. She loved to not only teach children but encouraged parents and grandparents to take an active role in their child's education in and out of the class. She mentored many young teachers and was always thinking of ways to give her babies the skills to be successful in life. Her love for education and the teachers she worked with was her passion even when she was out of the classroom.

Shellie lived a life of love and laughter with her husband and "Prince Charming" of 18 years Paul Martin. They enjoyed traveling, family, and training their German Shepherd, Nala, in the sport of Shutzhund.

Shellie leaves behind her husband Paul Martin, her parents John and Carol Richardson, brother Kenny Richardson and nieces Megan and Morgan Richardson, sister Shawn Leslie and her husband Craig Leslie, and her nephews Jake and Josh Leslie. She loves her nieces and nephews for making her a Tia.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 5, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm with vigil and rosary officiated by Deacon Bob Rumford to start at 7:00 pm at Crowder Funeral Home 111 E. Medical Center Blvd, Webster, Texas.

A celebration mass of Shellie's life will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 1:00pm with viewing beforehand at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 15500 El Camino Real, Houston, Texas 77062, officiated by Father Bob Barras.

Shellie with be laid to rest at Miller Creek Cemetery in Johnson City, TX.

We were saddened to hear about Shellie's passing. Although we didn't know her well (occasional waves or a few words here and there from our driveway) she always brought a smile to our faces with her wonderful sense of humor. We're quite sure heaven gained an angel.

Sincerely,
Your neighbors

Sending our love and prayers to Paul , family and friends.
It was a a pleasure to teach with Shellie at Mae Smythe Elementary. We were down the hall from each other in her first year at Mae Smythe. We shared good times with each other. She was a very special person to me.
God bless!

This is so beautifully written. I will forever have our high school memories. Sleepovers, trips to Taco Bell after school, listening to hair bands. I can't even listen to a Guns N Roses songs without thinking of her. :) Great, fun memories that will always be cherished. I'm so proud of the woman that she became and the lives that she touched.

Thank you Martin Family for sharing Mrs.Martin. She indeed was an Amazing person inside and out. She always went above and beyond to help and encourage others with kind and loving words. Mrs Martin tought my grandson Ezekiel and granddaughter Kamila. Ezekiel always made it a point to let us know that Mrs Martin was the most beautiful teacher in MaeSmyth Elementary. We will see again in due time. Lord give comfort to all the family and friends she touch and she left her mark. God Bless you all.
