Sue Stubblefield Schwerdtfeger

1933 - 2022

Jacquelyn Sue Stubblefield Schwerdtfeger, 88, of Pasadena, Texas, passed peacefully on May 9. 2022. Sue was born on May 29, 1933, to Frank Milton Stubblefield and Naomi May Price Stubblefield, in Champaign, Illinois, nine months and one day after their marriage. Sue's parents supported each other and their growing family, welcoming Sue's brother, Frank Milton Stubblefield, Jr., preceded in death, in 1935, and Sue's father earned his PhD in chemistry. Dr. Stubblefield was a professor at the University of Illinois, and then at Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia, teaching organic chemistry and physical chemistry. Sue attended Davis and Elkins College, studying philosophy, and was a lifelong member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Upon reaching the age of 21, Sue moved west, traveling by bus to AZ, where she worked first at a dude ranch, and then as a medical assistant. Her parents relocated to the Wash.D.C. area, with Col/Dr. Stubblefield working for the Army Chemical Corps and CIA and traveling worldwide. Sue was working for the government in Wash, D.C., and met and married her first husband, Ronald Earl Bostick. This marriage produced three daughters, now Jacquelyn Bostick Delin Dawson,MD, of Lewisville, TX, and twins Ronda Merle Bostick, preceded in death, and Ronnie Jean Bostick Burns, of Pasadena, TX. Following a lengthy separation, as adultery and abuse were not factors, the Bosticks divorced. Sue worked multiple jobs in apartment management and in the retail field. Ronald remained a strong and supportive father for his children, albeit often from overseas, in communication technology within the United States State Department and CIA. All grandparents and uncles and aunts were present and active in their love and nurture. Sue remained fiercely independent, and, then working full time for the US Postal Service, relocated with her three daughters to Pasadena, TX, in 1971, due to the warmer climate and Texas' relatively lower cost of higher education. She continued her post office career.

Sue's priorities were always God/faith, then spouse, then family, then education. Once in Pasadena, she and her three daughters walked to multiple churches, seeking the best fit. Southmore Church Of God (now Parkgate Community Church) became their fellowship home. Sue ensured that her daughters would be active participants in youth activities and regular in their church attendance. Sue was active in the church choir, as well. She met Ernest Stephen Schwerdtfeger, and they married in 1978. This partnership continued until Ernest's passing in 2012. Their love for each other and for family, church, dancing, and camping and road trips was strong. They were frequent volunteers at Zion Lutheran Church and with the Salvation Army, and the Pasadena Little Theater. During this time, Sue retired from the post office and earned an associate's degree in biology from San Jacinto College. Sue and Ernest also became certified as emergency medical technicians.

Sue loved music and loved to dance. She was diagnosed with insulin-dependent diabetes at the age of fifteen, and maintained a healthy diet, exercise level, and proactive attitude always. Diabetes took Sue's eyesight. Advanced non-Alzheimer's dementia took Sue's mentation, and her body and physical strength, but never her heart. The last phrases Sue was able to utter were "I love you" and "thank you", which meant the same thing.

The family wishes to express our boundless gratitude and thankfulness for the dedicated care that Vista Continuing Care and Rehab and Parkgate Community Church provided Mom and Ernest over the years. Words cannot express our appreciation for the gentle passing Heart to Heart Hospice provided Sue. She is in heaven now. We are so blessed in having received constant love, support and prayers from family and friends. Thank you (see above).

Sue is survived by two daughters and son-in-law Timothy Dawson, one stepson, William Ernest Schwerdtfeger, of Texas City, TX, daughter-in-law Darcelle Schwerdtfeger of Houston, TX, one niece and three nephews, seven grandchildren, multiple step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many more extended family members and friends.

A Life Celebration will be held Saturday, June 11. 2022 ,11am, at Parkgate Community Church in Pasadena, TX.
