Thomas Everett Maples, 75, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Shirley Maples; sons, Thomas Maples Jr. and wife, Yvonne, Todd Maples and wife, Anne Marie, Tobin Maples and wife, Heather; brother, Calvin Maples and wife, Donna; grandchildren, Haiden, Tait, Teag, Brandon, Zane and Tai Maples; and a host of other family and friends.
Tom proudly served his country in the United States Army for 20 years. He was a Vietnam Veteran and retired with the rank of Major. Following his retirement from the military, he worked as a business executive for Executone. Thomas was an avid golfer and lived on a golf course. He and Shirley enjoyed many happy times together golfing. Tom was strong in his faith and served the Almeda United Methodist Church for many years as Treasurer and Chairman of the Board. He was affectionately known as "Grandpap" and "PapPap" to his grandchildren and he cherished spending time with them. Thomas will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
A visitation for Tom will be held Wednesday, December 3, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The funeral service will take place, Thursday, December 4, 2014 at 10:00 am at the funeral home with Rev. Frances Foger officiating. Interment with military honors will take place at Houston National Cemetery in Houston, Texas. The gate time for interment will be 12:30 pm in lane 1. In lieu of flowers, donations to MD Anderson Cancer Hospital would be appreciated. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.claytonfuneralhomes.com.

If this is the Tommy Maples who was a catcher in Pasadena, Texas in the mid 50's, then I just want to say I admired his ability and tried to copy him. I made all-stars every year, so he was a good one to copy.
