Tom was born on August 17, 1940 in Delavan, Illinois the son of Dale and Opal (Griffith) Newlin. Following high school, Tom served in the U.S. Army Reserves. In 1962, Tom married Kathy Miller. She preceded him in death in 2007. On January 2, 2008, Tom married Judy May Morr. She survives. For many years, Tom worked in sales for Look Magazine, Standard Oil, and Gulf Coast Wire Rope. He later owned and operated Hunter Slings in Pasadena, Texas.
Tom was a faithful member of the Grace United Methodist Church where he was active in the United Methodist Men and Bible Study. In 2014, Tom began a ministry of making cross necklaces to share his faith with others. In his free time, Tom enjoyed coin collecting and was a pilot. Together with his brother LeRoy, they built an airplane. Tom's joy for life showed through his devotion to family and friends and never meeting a stranger.
Tom will be loved and remembered by his wife Judy A. Morr of Jewett, IL; sons Tim (Pat) Newlin, Father Thomas Newlin, Jr and Randy (Debra) Newlin all of Pasadena, Texas; granddaughters Nina Newlin, Alicia Newlin, and Marina Newlin; step-children Debbie (Scott) Ghere of Colfax, IL, John (Margaret) Morr of Scottsboro, AL and Cindy Hart of Loveland, OH; step grandchildren Brianne (Casey) Heimer, Bradley Ghere, Brooks Ghere, Hannah Hart, Will Morr and Jake Morr; step great grandchildren Sailor and Taya Jo Heimer; siblings Jane Page of Mt. Vernon, Patsy Snyder of Huntsville, AL, Don Newlin of Maunie, IL, Sharon (Gary) Jackson of Newton, Linda Mullens of Princeton, IN and LeRoy Newlin of Newton along with many nieces and nephews.
His parents, wife Kathy Newlin, daughter-in-law Jenny Newlin, and sisters Maxine Litwiller, Joyce Lux, and Joann Walk preceded him in death.
Memorial gifts in honor of Tom may be made to the Grace United Methodist Church or the First United Methodist Church of Pasadena or to the donor's choice.
