W.H. Smith Obituary

W.H. Smith, 88, of Richardson, TX, formerly of Conroe, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2021. He was born January 1, 1933, in Searcy, Arkansas, to the late Walker & Marie Smith.

He was born and raised in Arkansas and was one of six children. He was the quarterback on the football team and played other sports. He graduated in 1951 from Searcy High School. H went on to proudly serve in the United States Army. Following his time in the service, he attended business school in Little Rock, where he met his wife, Carolyn. They married in 1956 and moved to Reno, Nevada where H worked for a radio station in satellite communications. He and Carolyn eventually moved back to Arkansas, and then made their home in Conroe, Texas in 1962. He worked and retired from Natural Gas Pipeline in 1993.

In his free time, H enjoyed playing golf with his buddies at the Conroe Country Club. He also enjoyed fishing and watching sports, especially the Houston Texans and Arkansas Razorbacks. Although he was a man of few words, he was very loyal and trustworthy, and devoted to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him!

In addition to his parents, H was preceded in death by his brothers, Albert Smith and Jerry Don Smith; and sister, Peggy Landis. He is survived by his daughters, Melanie Parker and husband, Lanc, of Dallas and Sharon Smith of Richardson; granddaughter, Hagan (Clay) Ferrell of Fort Worth, great-grandsons, Connor, Luke, and Jackson; and sisters, Janie Watson and Polly Stout, both of Searcy, Arkansas. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he adored!!!

A funeral service was held on Saturday, September 25, 2021 in Sparkman Funeral Home, Richardson, Texas. Interment followed in Restland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center at gifts.mdanderson.org.
