and Durant Obituary

Durant: May 30, 1940 - March 10, 2021 Linda: November 5, 1942 - October 5, 2021 Durant graduated from San Marino High School in 1959. Known as Dude to his close friends, he attended Pasadena City College and ArtCenter College of Design. He was a gifted artist whose drawings in perspective were exquisite and who sculpted in multiple mediums including metal, wood, stone, and leather. His art was displayed at juried art exhibitions such as Contemporary Metals USA. He also designed furniture and designed and sculpted chess sets and boards. An avid automobile enthusiast and collector, he created his own tools for both his art and rebuilding and repairing vehicles. He loved the culinary arts and was a talented cook. Durant married Linda Renelle Lowry on March 26,1966. They enjoyed automobile shows, art exhibits, their dogs, family and friends. Linda graduated from Ramona Convent School in 1960. She completed an associates degree in accounting from Pasadena City College in 1979, earned a bachelor's degree in electrical and electronics engineering from California Polytechnic University, Pomona in 1982 and a Master's of Business Administration from University of LaVerne in 2001. After beginning her career in banking and bookkeeping, Linda moved into the field of her passion, seismology. She became a design and software engineer, working at Kinemetrics for 30 years, designing and manufacturing strong motion monitoring instruments to record and measure earthquakes. Linda was a gifted textile artist, focusing on weaving, knitting, crocheting, and ultimately, quilting. Her quilts won awards in regional and national juried quilt shows. She loved traveling for weaving and quilting conferences and to visit friends and family. Durant and Linda are survived by their nieces Kristin McElwain, Karin McElwain-West, Kimberli Kelly, Krickette Fredrick, and Kelli Romo, as well as great nieces and nephews. A celebration of life for this wonderful couple will be held on Sunday March 26, 2023, 1:30-4:30 pm at Arroyo Collective at Cisco Home, 474 S. Arroyo Parkway, Pasadena CA 91105.

Hello again ladies,
Thank you for holding a beautiful tribute to Linda and Durant. We so enjoyed viewing photos of her and her family through the years. Seeing her outstanding creative quilts were very special. The selection of her photo and the in depth obituary were all well done. I´m so glad that the photo and news of Linda working at Kinemetrics caught my eye and enticed me to read on. Thanks again for a fun afternoon. Sincerely, Linda and Norman Collar

Hello to the nieces of Linda and Durant. I´m sorry to learn of your losses. When I saw Linda´s photo, I thought I recognized her and sure enough when I read her obituary I did know Linda. We worked together at Kinemetrics a long time ago! At that time Linda was working in Accounting and I recall her studying Engineering at Cal Poly. But I didn´t know she had a long career at Kinemetrics and she enjoyed seismology. I am also the proud owner of one of her crotchet treasures. It is a baby blanket that she made for my new son. She was a lovely person and I´m sure she´ll be missed.
