Anthony Stefano Obituary

STEFANO -Anthony James Stefano, of South Pasadena, passed away on June 9, 2008 at the age of 79. Born on August 17, 1928, he lived most of his life in South Pasadena, graduating from South Pasdaena/San Marino high school, local community colleges, eventually earning a degree in education at Cal State L.A. Anthony, lovingly known as Tony, would often recall his memories of growing up in good ol' South Pas, passing them down to his children and grandchildren. He would talk about everything fr om his paper route in the "hills" during the 1930's, to working at the Shell station that used to be on Orange Grove to seeing a screening of "Frankenstein" and "Dracula" at the Rialto theater on Halloween night. He was also recognized in high school as a talented athlete and played baseball for the Pittsburgh Pirates farm team until he was drafted to the Army. He was a veteran of the Korean War, and when he returned to California, he attended John Muir high school, which had briefly turned into a community college for returning soldiers. He then became a teacher, and later became a supervisor in N.P.S.(non public schools) program for the L.A. Unified School District. Al in all, he worked in education for 28 years. With his love of math and education, he wrote books such as, "Pro-Football Math", and "Pro-Baseball Math". Tony was well loved by his family and friends and well like by everyone he met. His quick wit, sense of humor and love of life brought a uniqueness about him that is not easily replaced. He is survived by his children, Steven (Ann), Jerry, Anthony and Diana (Chad) Register; 10 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; sister Dorothy Knerr and brothers Thomas and Joseph. Funeral service will be Saturday at 10 AM with viewing at 9 AM, both at Cabot & Sons Chapel, Pasadena. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the South Pasadena High School Athletic Department.
