David Andrus Obituary

ANDRUS-Dr. David Joel Andrus, USC professor and international political activist, died June 29 in Pasadena, California after a ye arlong battle with lymphoma. He was 63. Dr. Andrus was born December 21, 1940 in Sayre, Pennsylvania and grew up in Waverly, New York. In September of 1957 he married Haila Hart. Dr. Andrus served three years in the United States Air force before moving to Southern California in 1963. After serving as an assistant vice president at Security Pacific Bank and president of a subsidiary of Smith-Kline Beckman, Andrus formed his own company, Applied Management Systems, a computer software and economic research company. In 1993, Dr. Andrus left the corporate world and entered the academic world as a professor at the USC School of International Relations. Devoted to his students and his work as an activist for peace and justice, Dr. Andrus' travels and academic studies took him to global hot spots, from Iraq to Columbia, in an effort to bring the most informed international picture and analysis into his classroom and to the community at large via numerous public forums and presentations. Dr. Andrus earned his b achelor's degree from California State University at Los Angeles, his MA from USC and, in 1975, his Ph.D. from the USC School of International Relations. No matter where his work took him, Andrus was equally devoted to his wife of almost 47 years, Haila Hart Andrus, his children, Colleen Dominguez, Beth Andrus, Michele Auon, Gabrielle Powell, and David Christopher Andrus, and his grandchildren, Peter Dominguez, Anna Dominguez, Faith Auon, and Abigail Auon. His passion and vision have been deeply rooted i n those who remain. Life's lessons, big and small, emanated from this man who left us too soon; no doubt his wisdom is needed elsewhere. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 9:30 A.M. Saturday, July 3, 2004 at Holy Family Church, 1509 Fremont Ave., South Pasadena. In lieu of flowers, family is requesting donations to: The L.A.
