I knew Jim back in the 1980s and early 90s. He helped us with the first mining collectors' magazine. His collection of artifacts was vast and he loved to talk. Sad to see someone pass so early.

Jim was effectively my stepfather for about 12 years. I barely knew him at first, even though he and my mom, Jeanie, first met on the role-playing message board that I had introduced her to, the Napping Cat´s Dream. After we moved here to live with him, we started to become friends, though we both had our rough edges of course.
It seems like you don´t always realize how much someone means to you until they´re dying. Even after Mom´s sudden death early last year, when we leaned on each other heavily for emotional support, I still hadn´t quite realized just how much I had come to care for him. Fortunately I had a couple of weeks to tell him as his condition kept worsening, and he was alert and responsive right to the end, so we at least had a chance to say farewell, something I hadn´t gotten with Mom.
I love the inclusion of an excerpt from one of his poems. I hadn´t even learned of their existence until the day after his death, even though he´d mentioned his "dragon dreams" on many occasions, and reading that particular piece right after was particularly poignant. It´s appropriately titled "Always Going Home" and the full version, which I highly recommend, can be found on the DeviantArt web site under the username "Yao-Chi".
Jim touched many lives, in ways both small and large, and he will be dearly missed.
