Lewis Peters Obituary

June 9, 1945 - April 15, 2020 Lewis Alexander Peters, II, adoring and adored husband, daddy, grandpoppy, brother, and friend, left this earth on Wednesday, April 15, 2020, after a well fought battle with Alzheimer's. Everyone that knew him will dearly miss his laughter, abundant generosity, and endless capacity for love. Lewis was born, raised, introduced to the love of his life, grew his family and passed away in the city he loved, Pasadena, where he was a proud graduate of John Muir High School, inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2013 alongside his father, Lewis Alexander Peters Sr., the only father/son inductees to date. Lewis loved and was and supportive of his alma mater his entire life. A true man of and for the people, Lewis, with a degree in Sociology from Occidental College, devoted his career to education, schooling young minds in the delights of his favorite subject, English, most likely while quoting a poem or a line from one of his favorite soul or doo-wop songs: he was so bright, he was a living school book. Lewis and his bride, Angela, married on his college campus, Occidental College, June 26, 1971, & settled in the San Rafael Hills. They would spend the rest of Lewis' life there, surrounded by family, including daughter Alison Michelle (wife Teri Norris), namesake son Lewis III (wife Angel Walters) and their children, Zaria, Lewis IV, and Milan. Lewis' best friends included his beloved little sister, Toni Dunbar, close cousin Dwayne Peters, brother/sister in law Ray and Eddie Newman, and pretty much everyone he ever met. Till the end of his life, Lewis remembered and took comfort in the support of his family and friends, the neighbors who became family, caregivers he always treated to a smile and a song: even in his most trying moments, Lewis had a smile for everyone, and you left his presence with a song in your heart. He was that cool. Lewis wished to be remembered with a celebration, which will be held when everyone in his world can meet, together, to honor the man we loved.

I remember Lewis for his beautiful smile and his kindness toward others. I went to Muri just one year, but my husband graduated from Muir. My husband, Ralph Olivas, especially liked interacting with Lewis during the class reunions at Brookside Park...which Lewis arranged. They both loved going to the Turkey Tussle and hearing the Muir Drummers. May Lewis and Ralph RIP. May Lewis' family find comfort in their memories of Lewis.

I remember Mr. Peters from my 8th grade English class. We would have Oral reports every Friday. And a man who loved an excellent Sam Cooke song just before the start of his course. He was a teacher that helped me develop my presentation skill because of the 3-minute class presentations and our spelling tests. It is sad to hear he has left us, but I am sure he doesn't have to suffer anymore—my deepest condolences.

Mr. Peters wasnt the kind of guy one could easily forget. He was one of my jr hi teachers that knew his stuff in English, poetry & Lit. I loved being around him. He was so upbeat, personable & a sharp dresser. Although we hadnt connected in sometime, I feel a loss. I hope the family will take comfort in knowing that Mr.Petersmade a lasting, positive impression on so many.

I check the Star News everyday here at work, but since we've been on a different work schedule, I missed seeing that Lewis had passed away... until just recently when the Star News had a special insert remembering recent passings. I am not a life-long friend of Lewis'; I didn't even graduate from John Muir, but in the short amount that I did attend John Muir, he made a lasting impression. I remember going to his home, which was above Washington Blvd.; mine was on Wilson, just below Washington Blvd. He was smart, funny, personable and kind. My husband, Ralph Olivas, and I saw Lewis at Brookside Park, when he would host the John Muir alumni get-together that would take place on Turkey Tussle Day against Pasadena High School. What a wonderful smile Lewis had. e was definitely one the "Good Guys." May perpetual light shine upon him, and may he rest in peace.

Lewif was quite the gentleman. He could not be more friendly or helpful to friends greeting them with his wonderful smile, opening the car doors taking your arm to walk you into the house. If Angela and I were going to play bridge he'd say 'bridge bridge, bridge" with a twinkle in his eyesl he was -proud of his Angel's skills, wishing us luck.
A fun loving and kind man, he will be greatly missed.
