Ron Stoddard Obituary

Ron Stoddard, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend,
passed away on July 7th of heart failure and complications of diabetes at St. Michael's
Hospital in Silverdale. He will be missed by many.
Ron was born in Riverside, California on November 17, 1956, to Dorwan and Arleene
Stoddard, the third of their four sons. Dorwan and Arleene enjoyed the outdoors and the
entire family spent much of their spare time camping and exploring every lake, river and park
that caught their interest and had a boat launch. Fishing and hunting were a family affair,
activities that became Ron's motivation to move to the Pacific Northwest in the mid 90s. Ron
spent nearly all of his spare time fishing in the straits on his boat during the summer, or near a
river in the winter, always accompanied by his beloved dog pal Teddy.
After graduating from high school Ron worked at many jobs. Always a hard worker, he gave
his all to whatever he did. And there was nothing he could not do. He excelled at running
heavy equipment, fixing an ailing vehicle, as well as carpentry then teaching others how to do
the same. Teaching and helping others are traits he learned from his father and mother and
were very much a huge part of who he was. If someone needed help, Ron was the guy to call,
and he seldom said no. But the one thing he enjoyed doing the most was showing someone
how to fish. And I don't know who was prouder when a student caught their first one. But the
huge smile on his face whenever his 'student'; landed their first fish said it all.
Ron worked for John Dickensen of Sequim, starting when he moved here until he was
diagnosed with diabetes twelve years ago which forced him to quit a job he enjoyed, and he
missed his work family as much as he missed working. Driving through Sequim he could
show you every job he worked on and give you every detail no matter how small of everything
he did on that job site.
Shortly after he moved to Sequim, he met his current wife Terry Hollis and within weeks they
became inseparable. Between them they had eight children and two grandchildren at that
time. Family was important to both of them which wasn't easy since everyone did not live in
the same state. But distance did not deter them from loving each and every member of their
blended family as more grandkids and great grandkids came along. Ron and Terry were
married on December 3, 1999 and remained together until his passing.
In 2015 Ron had his first stroke which did not affect him as much as it could have, so he was
at least able to continue with most of his normal activities. But in 2016 he had two more and
each one took a toll on him. The third one robbed him of the use of his right hand and
hampered his ability to walk. At this time, he heard about a new surgery being done at
Swedish and was accepted as a patient. The surgeons on his team of doctors had come
together from all over the world to perfect a surgery to bypass blocked arteries in the brain
and help prevent future strokes. It was a miracle surgery, basically one that would give him
more time with family and friends.
Ron went into Swedish in April and spent six months in and out of the hospital as the diabetes
hampered his recovery. He spent more time in the hospital than he did at home, but he fought
to get well and was finally released in September. And that fighting spirit was still strong after
he collapsed at home on June 28th then was transported to Silverdale on the 29th. He passed peacefully on the morning of July 7th, when he went to be with the loved ones waiting for him.
Ron is survived by his wife Terry, sons Charles (Skye) of Las Vegas, and Ken (Susie) of
Sequim. Daughter Jamie (Andy) Encinia of Colorado. Stepchildren Kelley (Brent) Picasso of
Edmonds, James Erwick of Idaho, Kristen Bertelsen-Erwick of Sequim, Jeffrey Cameron
Hollis of Seattle, Toni (Wade) Gore of Silverdale and John (Beth) Hollis of Port Angeles.
Grandchildren Kane Stoddard of Silverdale, Kassie (Jordan) Hale of Florida, Alyssa, Shaun,
Tristan and Kylee Encinia of Colorado, Livia and Ava Picasso, Kathryn Bertelsen of Oregon,
and Maggie Gore. Ron also leaves behind his two great grandsons Ezra Encinia and Atticus
Hale. He is also survived by his brother Dale (Gail) Stoddard of Arizona as well as many
nieces and nephews. And special friends Glenn Stovall and Jeff Whitney who were willing to
give him a hand with things he could not do alone and spent time with him when he needed
someone to just talk to.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved grandmother Rose Stoddard, brothers
Dan and James Stoddard, his mother-in-law Shirley Bolling, granddaughter Ashlea Erwick,
his third 'mom'; Peggy Wilson, Shirley Bolling's sister and his beloved dog pal Teddy who no
doubt was first in line and is following Ron everywhere he goes.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 6th at the Senior Center in Port Angeles from
noon to two. Lunch will be served after a short eulogy. Please come and share this time with
Ron's family and share your memories with us as we say our goodbyes to a man who was so
special to all of us.
