Charles Everett Obituary

Charles Ballard Everett, Jr.

Virginia Beach - Charles Ballard Everett Jr., 77, beloved Husband, Father, Papa, Uncle, and friend of many, born February 21, 1938, passed into the arms of his heavenly Father on August 6, 2015. Though our family is profoundly saddened by Charles's passing, we know he is free of any and all discomfort.

Charles was predeceased by his loving wife of fifty years Sue Mertins Everett of Virginia Beach, parents Charles Ballard Everett Sr. and Bessie Mae Anderson Everett of Augusta, Georgia, and sisters Janice Emeryl Everett Penrose of Atlanta, Georgia and Miriam Eugenia Brewer Lyne of Coral Gables Florida.

Charles is survived by his beloved children and grandchildren, Cynthia Sue Everett Lackey and Dan Charles Lackey, Christopher Allen Everett and his children Chase and Taylor, and daughter-in-law Kristian McCall Everett of Virginia Beach; Deanna Cooper of Williamsburg; Charles Timothy Everett and his children April and Kevin, and Mark Bryan Everett and Lori Smith Everett and their children Joshua and Ryan of Chesapeake.

Charles was born in Aiken, South Carolina and soon moved to Augusta, Georgia where he played football for the Academy of Richmond County Musketeers. During his time as a Musketeer, he met his soon to be wife Sue Mertins. Following high school Charles attended the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia where he played football for the Yellow Jackets under Coach Bobby Dodd. In 1962 Charles graduated from Georgia Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Management. By this time Charles had married Sue and a family was started. Through out the 1960's and 1970 Charles and Sue completed their family of four as Charles continued progressing his finance career in the industry surrounding Augusta, Georgia. In the 1970's Charles continued to master finances and in the late 1970's accepted a job with Stihl Incorporated in Virginia Beach, Virginia. After many years at Stihl, Charles retired from the company and soon thereafter began his second career at EMS Industrial Incorporated in Chesapeake, Virginia. Charles finished his professional career at EMS Industrial where he had many dear friends he considered family. Charles spent his remaining years enjoying time with family and friends.

Charles was blessed with a multitude of special friends whose love enabled him to confront his challenge with courage and dignity. Charles never met a stranger he could not befriend and always gave more then he received. Charles was special to all and could always make a group smile in his playful role of comic. He loved to attend and watch collegiate football games, which included cheering on the Cavalier Marching Band in Charlottesville as it marched to the stadium performing pep rally songs. He loved the game of golf whether playing with his friends or family in local fundraising tournaments or watching from start to finish the four major championship tournaments, with the Masters being his favorite. He also loved to fish in his later years off the docks in Lake Gaston presenting his "citation" catches to the family. He loved spending time with his family and friends especially during the Christmas season, which was his favorite time of the year. Charles was dedicated to God and family and most notable about him was his unconditional and eternal love for all he touched throughout the years.

On Charles's behalf, our family would like to acknowledge the kindness, support, and compassionate care provided by volunteers, staff members, care partners, nurses, physicians and friends of First Colonial Inn, Seaside at Atlantic Shores, Sentara Princess Anne Hospital, and the Sentara Hospice House.

Condolences may be shared at www.hollomon-brown.com and a celebration of Charles's life will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2015, 4-7 p.m. at 900 Glades Court in Chesapeake, Virginia, 23322.

My heart is so sad to read that Mr Everett passed away. He was my Dad's roomate at Atlantic Shores Seaside. He had such a warm and sweet spirit. I would bring him crackers and watermelon everyday for his snack. For the 4th of July I bought him a 4th of July tee shirt to wear. My prayers and thoughts go out to his family. May the memories you have give you comfort for the days ahead.

My Uncle Charles was my hero growing up, we were only 10 years apart. I spent two years with my grandparents, one Charles was a Senior At Richmond Academy and the other a freshman at Georgia Tech. When he and Aunt Sue were dating, she made Charles take me with them to a drive-in movie where from the backseat I spilled coke all over Sue. She would not let Charles whip me, instead she hugged me.,I know there is a party in Heaven, and one day I will get to join them. Love you Uncle Charles.
