Charles Fisher Obituary

Charles "Chuck" K. Fisher CAPT USN / USNR, born 27 September 1938, of Bristol TN went home to heaven on January 1, 2024.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie Jane and Philip R. Fisher, and brother Richard P. Fisher.

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Christine Fisher. Christine has always been by his side and devotedly cared for him until his passing. He was a proud father to son Mark P. Fisher, daughter Diane Richard (Scott), stepchildren Renee V. Brown, and Christoher Brown. His grandchildren Morgan West (Chris), Justin Fisher, Samantha Brown, Ryan Brown, and Luke Brown, and six great-grandchildren brought him great joy.

One of Chuck's most proud life accomplishments was his devoted service to our National Defense and our country. He proudly joined the U. S. Navy as a Naval Officer and entered Flight Training in 1962, received his gold wings and was designated a Naval Aviator in 1963. During his career he flew the C-18 and C-130E aircraft. He transitioned to the Attack Carrier Airborne Early Warning E-2 aircraft in 1969. In 1972 he transitioned to duty with the Naval Reserves and remained affiliated with the E-2 Naval Air Reserve Unit. During his military service he rose to serve as the Commanding Officer of VAW-1086 and VAW-78. Following his military career, he transitioned to the business sector and was employed by Lincoln Financial as a group specialist for 35 very successful years.

Chuck and Chris shared 43 years together in a loving, happy relationship. Following his retirement, they traveled the world together. He loved cruising on ships and he especially enjoyed their cruising partners, Harry and Brenda Hampson, and Nelson and Marlene Cahill. The couples shared many hours laughing, reminiscing, and playing games. Chuck especially loved his family and was a devout Christian and a faithful follower at the Joint Forces Amphibious Base Little Creek Chapel. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, Thursday night poker games with his neighbors, and good food. Every dessert was his favorite. Chuck was also a proud member of the Tidewater O Gauge Association for scale railway modelling. He especially enjoyed the fellowship he shared with the members and their lunch gatherings at Lulu's every Saturday.

Chuck was truly an exceptional person that will be long be remembered for his kindness, willingness to mentor others who looked up to him, and the love he shared with his wife and family. He loved life and a good joke. Chuck was remarkable, always happy, smiling and sharing his upbeat energy with those around him every day.

The family will gather with friends on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. for visitation and viewing at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, 1264 Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach VA. Heaven must have needed someone to run trains, as we know Charles loves to run trains. We will definitely miss his smiling face, and great personality. He always made you feel welcome, and could cheer up a room. Thanks for all the great memories, I know we will see you again Fairwinds, and following seas shipmate. Our prayers are with you, and the family Christine.

My heart hurts hearing the news of Chuck's passing. He was my boss/mentor/friend at Lincoln Financial for many years. He was a tremendous teacher. His quirky sayings still live in me 30+ years later. His Lincoln team still cracks up over the crazy times we had and the fun we had together. He was absolutely the most patient man. He managed an entire team of ladies who kept him on his toes at all times. We traveled all over the countryside with Chuck . He was an encourager! He loved his family. He was a leader. He was a great story teller. So many outstanding qualities all wrapped up in one special man! God bless you Chuck! May your family feel the healing touch of God through this time.
