Doris Doyle Obituary

Doris Elizabeth Taylor Doyle passed from this life on March 9, 2022. Born October 18, 1930 in Norfolk Protestant Hospital, she grew up in Norfolk where she graduated from Maury High School and attended the Norfolk Division of the College of William & Mary, now Old Dominion University. Doris is predeceased by her parents, John Nestor Taylor and Blanche Harrison Taylor, her beloved husband of 39 years, William E. Doyle, Sr., and her great granddaughter, Clare Louise Doyle.

She is survived by her son, William E. Doyle, Jr. (Pamela) and daughter, Tyler Doyle Harrell (Scot). Doris was a proud and happy grandmother of six and a great grandmother of fourteen.

Following completion of coursework at the Norfolk Division, Doris started her working career as a secretary at WTAR in Norfolk. While raising her family, she worked for many years as Office Administrator at Virginia Beach Friends School and later at Norfolk Academy. Doris and her husband were founders of Virginia Beach KOA Campground, where she worked in registration and coordinated the grocery operations. She finished her career at Miller Enterprises/Duck In Restaurant where she served as Office Manager for nearly 12 years. In retirement, Doris continued to travel in the United States and abroad, often with a grandchild or two as a traveling partner. Listening to opera and reading remained passions in her life. She also enjoyed walking along the beach, especially in the early mornings

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the Westminster Canterbury staff, especially those serving 2A and 2B in The Hoy Center, each of whom became a special friend to Doris. Their attentive and loving care added immensely to her quality of life.

Doris was an active member and volunteer at Old Donation Episcopal Church, where a celebration of her life will be held during the regular 10:00 a.m. service on Thursday, March 31st. In lieu of flowers, Doris requested donations be made to Boys Home of Virginia in Covington, Virginia or to Old Donation Episcopal Church.

Doris was a great consolation to me when her cousin, my grandmother, Joan Harrison Graham, passed away in 2008. Doris then helped me prepare the family history and sent copies of several old photos of the Harrisons and Klines. I am saddened to learn of her passing, and I will always cherish our email conversations.

My therapy dog Houston and I are saddened about Doris' passing. Although we could not visit her in person due to covid restraints she was in our hearts everyday. Such a joyful woman - she inspired me!

Jimmy and I are so sad to hear of Doris's passing. I can easily say that I loved her. She helped me immensely when Curly was passing away. She and I had a loving friendship. Sadly, I became ill and could not meet with her nor anyone else during the past several years. So many people will miss her. Doris made the world a better place. Fondly, Jackie and Jimmy
