Elisabeth Seyller Obituary

Elisabeth Seyller

Born Mary Elisabeth Richards on October 6, 1928, the only child of Earl and Mary Flowers Richards, died on February 18th, in Norfolk. She was a native of the area, moving from Portsmouth to Norfolk in time to complete first grade at J.E.B. Stuart School and grow up in Colonial Place. She graduated from Maury High School in 1947, and married a cute sailor, Bob Seyller, in 1950. They were married for 53 eventful years. She is survived by daughters, Joyce and Pat Seyller, Robin Roper (Donnie), and special daughter Tricia Brackin. Also survived by four pseudo grandchildren Jarrod, Haley and Kelsey Burkes, and Matt Brinson to whom she was known as "GG" (Grand Guardian).

Elisabeth was a Girl Scout troop leader for 15 years and a day camp unit leader for 7 summers, serving girls of all age levels and loving every minute of it. In 1967 she was hired by the local Girl Scout Council where she worked for 37 years, retiring as office manager in 2003. After retirement, she volunteered as a mentor at Bayview Elementary School and at Park Place School.

In her later years she lived in the Bayview section but at one time or another she had lived all over Norfolk, from Willoughby to the downtown area, and was a long time member of Park Place Baptist Church. She enjoyed her city and its people and was a frequent contributor to "I Grew Up In Norfolk" website, and will be remembered for her numerous letters to the editor of the Virginian Pilot. She loved children, reading, writing, and remembering all the happy times of her life with her family, friends, and many, many pets.

Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the Norfolk Animal Care and Adoption Center, 5585 Sabre Rd, Norfolk 23502. Memorial will be announced on Facebook

Dear Seyller Family,
Many of us have known the sadness born of the passing of a loved one (most frequently it's a parent we mourn). There are never enough words to adequately console those who mourn; but my spirit says we must remember ALL those joyous occasions (big and small) and times we spent together with the dearly departed. May the gates of Heaven open to welcome Elisabeth, where she will have eternal joy and peace! Bless you all. (your neighbor and friend)
