Eusebia Elszy

Virginia Beach - Eusebia Z. Elszy (Sue) 69, affectionally known by her family as "Chella," went up to the Lord peacefully on Divine Mercy Sunday April 27, 2014 in her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Fort Stockton, Texas to her parents Geronimo and Juanita Zubia. Her parents and brother Felix Zubia preceded Eusebia in death.

Known as Sue by her many friends, she was devoted to helping the less fortunate. She was a charter member of St. Vincent DePaul Society Chapter at St. Matthew's Catholic Church and served as its Vice-President. She was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Women's Auxiliary. Sue served as chairperson volunteer with the Red Cross while in Naples, Italy. Her grandchildren, nieces and nephews all enjoyed her playing and reading to them as young children.

Elszy; two daughters, Kriss Ann Steele of Fresno, CA., and Margie Bensching of Spokane, WA; son, Mark Elszy of Leesburg, VA.; six grandchildren, Christopher, Caroline, Robert, Audrey, Richie and Teddy; seven sisters, Cruz Z. Gastelo, Ester Z. Rodriguez, Tana Z. Herrick, Cindy Balderama, Lilia Ochoa, Nettie M. Oliver and Gloria Hurt; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

The family will receive friends at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach on Tuesday, April 29 with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m. The Mass will be conducted on Wednesday, April 30 at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 3314 Sandra Lane, Virginia Beach. Sue was truly a remarkable woman and I was proud to have her as a friend. I admired her courage and devotion to her family and countless others she was always helping with her infinite wisdom and kindness. She really helped show me how to accept life on life's terms and for that I will be eternally grateful. Rest in peace Sue, you will surely be missed and you will forever be remembered in my heart.
