George Louis Gunter

George Louis Gunter, 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Spring Arbor Senior Living Facility in Kill Devil Hills, NC. George was born on February 12, 1934, in Norfolk, VA. He met his wife, Camilla (Kay) Redd Gunter, while attending Maury High School. Mr. Gunter played football for the Maury High School Commodores. After graduation, he moved to the Kempsville section of Virginia Beach where he lived for most of his life. Along with his brother, Robert, Mr. Gunter owned a successful business known as Gunter Brothers Concrete Company Inc. in Virginia Beach where they worked together until retirement. He was a member of Spurgeon Memorial Baptist Church in Norfolk where he was active in all facets of the ministry. George was a member of Kempsville Masonic Lodge No. 196 A.F. & A.M. and was also active in the Khedive Shrine Temple Drum and Bugle Corps. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Kay to whom he was married to for more than 64 years, and his brother, Robert.  Survivors include his daughter, Karen Head (Mike) and son, Raymond Gunter, Sr. (Terri); his seven grandchildren, Dalton, Geoffrey, Raymond, Jr., Melissa, Louis, Ashley, and Marley; and his four great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Adoration Hospice and the Staff at Spring Arbor Senior Living Facility for their love and support for Mr. Gunter while in their care.

The service to celebrate his life will be on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Altmeyer Funeral Home and Crematory, 929 Battlefield Blvd Chesapeake, VA 23322. Pastor Joe Newman will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions be made to the Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital, 950 W. Faris Rd, Greenville, NC 29605.
