Jennifer Beckett Obituary

Jennifer Beckett

Norfolk - Jennifer Mariner Beckett, 52, of White Hall, VA, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 13, 2017, of complications from Stage IV breast cancer. Her devotion to family and friends, and her strong faith in God, supported Jennifer and her family throughout her illness.

Jennifer was born April 21, 1965, in Newport, RI. She was a graduate of Maury High School and the College of William and Mary majoring in international relations and German.

After graduation, Jennifer combined her love of people, language, and travel in a career that included management positions in Trade Fairs and Exhibitions and in Transportation Logistics, which was then followed by a career as an executive recruiter both in New York and Virginia until her health issues made this impossible.

Jennifer is survived by her parents, Joe and Mary Lou Beckett of Duck, NC; her sister and brother in law, Jean and Jim Michaels of Oakland, CA; her sister Jane Beckett of Norfolk, VA; her aunt and uncle, Jean Lutz and Bill Hardesty of Oxford, OH; her nephew and niece Jacob and Antigone Michaels; her cousins Susan Jane and Mark Novalsky and their children Andrew and Sarah Jane of Woodbury, NJ and cousins Sherman and Stacey Yeiter and their children, Alicia and Colin of Sewell NJ; and her very dear friend Content Hagen of Crozet, VA.

Jennifer's was a warm and inclusive heart, as well as a thoughtful and generous spirit - especially for people, both friends and strangers, flowers, and dogs. Her large and infectious laugh brought joy to all who knew her and even those who didn't. She enjoyed the beauty of nature where ever she was, and always with the company of family and friends. Most of all she enjoyed helping others-especially those with cancer.

Memorial services will be held at Buck Mountain Episcopal Church, Earlysville, VA at 2 pm, November 25, 2017 and at All Saints' Episcopal Church in Southern Shores, NC at 2 pm on December 16, 2017. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital Foundation www.mjhfoundation.org/seedsofgratitude, Buck Mountain Episcopal Church, All Saints' Episcopal Church, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Something made me think of you and tried to look you up since we lost touch and found this. Our days at Schenkers was fun and we did keep in touch for some years after. One of the best memories I have was going to see the English Patient and Good Will Hunting with you. I'm sorry I didn't look you up sooner - I'll never forget your smile, your zest for life and you. I always enjoyed your company - either catching a movie or dinner or just talking. I'm sorry we lost touch but that sometimes happens and makes one appreciate the fleeting times we had.

Jennifer shines bright an embodiment of Love and Joy and like all things divine, impossible to fully capture in mere words. This beautiful tribute comes close! We all have the spark, the fire, but it takes someone special to radiate and share it as Jennifer does. I thank God for the blessing of knowing her. She makes it easier to believe that the Light shines eternal, before and after our time on earth, for all time and for all we encounter. Shine on, Beautiful Spirit! Thanks for the Love!

Jennifer was such an inspiration to all who knew her. She was such a dear and I will miss her. Although I didn't get to see her much in the last couple of years, she remained in my thoughts and prayers and dear to my heart. Family...I thank you for sharing her with me!!!
