I just learned that you were gone. The world was a brighter place when I believed you were still in it. You were a sui generis, loving and joyful, life-embracing presence, and you will be missed by all of us who were fortunate enough to have our paths cross yours, both in the theatre and out in that other, less brightly-lit, world. Goodnight sweet prince, and choirs of angels sing thee to thy rest.

Joe and I hung out together in the mid-90's in Los Angeles. His acerbic wit made me laugh heartily. Hard to accept that he is gone.

What a great guy and energetic playwright! Always acting in, working, writing or producing something! And I remember one party in particular where he celebrated his mother, who was there at his home, so highly.

Joe and I were a part of many shows together. Every show had casts that became very close and mostly due to Joe and his amazing energy, generosity, love and passion. You will be sorely missed, my friend.

Although I never met him in person, I did speak with him a few times on the phone regarding a film he made in 1982, which went on to become a genuine cult classic. As a result he has gained a legion of fans who will continue to appreciate his work for many years to come.

Joe was a great friend for over 45 years, always willing to listen and share. He passed way, way too young and life won't be the same without him.
