Joyce Dennis Obituary

Joyce Ruby Dennis, 76, passed away on January 8, 2021. She was born in Maryland to the late Nellie DeMoss and DeWarren Ruby. Her twin brother, Royce, and sisters, Shirley and Betty, also preceded her in death.

Joyce was a talented hairdresser, plying her expert abilities at Taylor Burgess Salon and Barber Shop in Norfolk. She made fast friends with anyone, and was always at the ready with a witty remark. She always gave and never asked for anything in return.

Joyce's husband of 50 years, Frank, fought for his own life alongside her. He survived her for three weeks to the day before he joined her eternally. Left to cherish her memory are her three sons, Jesse (Dori), Neil (Tabitha), and Matthew (Stephanie); grandchildren, Christian, Dylan, Lexie, Joshua, Saige, Jennifer, and Bradley; nieces, Barbara, Cathe, Audrey, Sheila, and Dianna; and nephews, Royce and Curtis.

Joyce and Frank will have a funeral service held in their honor at 9:30 AM on Friday, February 5, 2021 at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel at 1485 Kempsville Road. They will be laid to rest together in a private ceremony at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joyce's honor may be made to the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com. Joyce was another sister added to my family when she married my brother. She was full of life and the perfect complement to my brother Franklin. Joyce was gifted by God with high energy, enthusiasm for life, and a loving spirit to all she knew.
I cherish my memories of the times spent with Joyce as a teenager growing into adulthood. Joyce was a wonderful mother and wife, and loved hosting family gatherings. I will never forgot how she brought the family together each year at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and made each time a grand and special event for each family member. Joyce often told me how much she loved Christmas. It comforts me to know that she is now with the Savior of the World, our Lord Jesus, whose birth we celebrate each Christmas. I am sure that Joyce is full of joy and new life in eternity, her battle well fought and having received the crown of life promised to all who love the Lord Jesus. I love you, Joyce, my sister. I will never forget you. I will see you again.
