LaVerne Crown Obituary

LaVerne Crown

Virginia Beach - LaVerne Redman Crown, 71, of Virginia Beach, and originally of Baltimore MD, died peacefully in her home on July 17, 2017, after a long courageous battle with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Buzz Crown, her husband of 50 years, was by her side throughout, and in her final days a steady stream of friends came to say goodbye, so she passed feeling deeply loved. She is survived by, and was first and foremost a loving wife, mother, and grandmother to, Buzz, sons Jake, Jeremy and partner Yvonne Chen, Taylor and wife Jodi and grandchildren Samuel and Addison, as well as numerous beloved siblings, in-laws, and extended family. Friendship filled LaVerne's life, she extended a smile and introduction to everyone she met, was always among the first to welcome new neighbors, making everyone she met feel special. A dedicated lifelong learner, she loved to read 'books with ideas' then discuss with her book group and family; she loved conversations about art, history, politics & world events, gardening and the natural world- there seemed to be no subject of which she was not interested. LaVerne was a tireless volunteer, including King's Daughters- Dolphin Circle, Virginia Beach Garden Club, Broad Bay Point Greens Garden Club, choir at Holy Family Catholic Church, and numerous other community involvements. LaVerne would not want to be defined by her illness, horrific and as of yet incurable though it may be, nor even by the heroic fight she waged, but by her passionate embrace of life, love, friendship, and family. LaVerne radiated optimism and warmth, inspiring so many, and will be deeply missed. A visitation will occur at Holy Family Catholic Church 1279 N Great Neck Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23454 from 5-8 Monday July 31, and then a funeral Mass on August 1st also at Holy Family at 11am. Please help find a cure for this disease by donating in lieu of flowers to "Team Love LaVerne" at dolphincircle.org or by check to: Dolphin Circle at 4464 Ocean View Ave., Virginia Beach, VA 23455.

Buzz and family,
Ron and I extend to you our deepest sympathies. LaVerne was such a warm, kind, and friendly person. She will be missed by everyone in our neighborhood, but Heaven is so lucky to have her. She is probably now on their Welcoming Committee.
