Nicholas McDaniel "Nick" Fletcher

1983 - 2021

Nicholas Fletcher Obituary

Nick, 38, passed away on September 26, 2021, following a plane crash in Fayette Co, WV. He was born March 13, 1983; in Portsmouth, VA, and was a lifelong resident of Chesapeake. He was a graduate of Deep Creek High School and James Madison University. Nick was a sought after and well respected telephony engineer, providing his skills to many hospitals and school systems in Tidewater.

A wonderful father, Nick cherished spending time with his children and family. He loved flying, snowboarding, whitewater rafting, and spending time at the ancestral home on Kerr Lake with friends and family. He loved golfing, and shot his best round everâ€"a 73â€"in recent weeks. Nick was smart, generous, kind and funny. His humor ranged from the sharpest witty remarks to the most groan worthy dad jokes. In recent years, he fostered numerous dogs rescued after disasters in the Caribbeanâ€"with expert assistance from his beloved fur babies Penny and Yin Yang.

Left to cherish his memory are his former wife, Cristina Taphouse Fletcher, and their children, Violet Grace and Jacob ; mother, Karen Rhodes Smith, (Don); father, Frank "Hank" Fletcher, (Judy); grandmother, Violet McDaniel Fletcher; brothers, Zachary Fletcher (Sarah) and Evan Smith; sisters, Samantha Doughten (Reid) and Nicole Smith; aunt, Cheryl Fletcher Drum; cousin, Morgan Fletcher Drum; brother-in-law, Jeff Taphouse, (Maggie); partner, Hannah Braade and daughter Gaia; nephew and nieces, Henry and Claire Doughten, Eliza and Maggie Fletcher, and Ellie Taphouse; and friends far too numerous to list.

He was preceded by his paternal grandfather, Frank Fletcher; and his maternal grandparents, Alan and Harriet Rhodes.

There will be a celebration of Nick's life on Sunday, October 3, from 11am to 1pm, at The Venue at Cahoon Pavilion, 1501 Cahoon Parkway, Chesapeake. Please take all appropriate Covid-19 precautions.

I send my deepest condolences to the families of Nick. I worked with Nick at CHKD. He was a lot of fun and we had some good conversations about flying as my grandson is also a pilot. He will be missed!!

Hank, I just heard of your loss today. I am sure you are still in shock over your son's death, and there is nothing I can say to console you. A parent should never have to bury a child. I can only imagine the grief you are going through; my thoughts are with you as are Diane's.

Violet and Jacob,
My heart is broken for you. I am praying that the precious memories of your dad will eventually overwhelm the pain and sadness you are experiencing now and fill you with all the comfort and peace you need.
