Smithfield - Robert Harris "Harry" Thomas, Jr., 60, passed away unexpectedly Monday, December 7, 2015. Born and reared in Virginia Beach, VA, Harry was the son of the late Robert H., Sr. and Nancy Horton Thomas. Formerly of Chesapeake, Hampton Roads was home for Harry. He had lived in Smithfield for the past 7 years.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother who was loyal and fun-loving. He was owner/operator of Advanced Builders, Inc., providing residential and commercial construction for all of Hampton Roads. Harry lived life to the fullest and was always willing to try anything once. His passion for the water and adventurous spirit will be missed by all who knew him.
Harry leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 41 years, Teresa Dunn Harris Thomas; two daughters, Amber Williams and Terri Early and her husband, Herman; three grandchildren, Brandon and Camrin Williams, and Ryland Early; his sister, Jean Harris (Perry); and his brother, Kenneth Wayne Thomas (Joyce); and a host of extended family and friends.
A service celebrating Harry's life will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 12, 2015, at Colonial Funeral Home, Carrollton, with Rev. Ernest Trueblood officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends following the service in the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Habitat for Humanity International, 121 Habitat Street, Americus, GA 31709-3498 or Habitat.org, a charity that was dear to Harry's heart.
Service arrangements are in the care of Colonial Funeral Home, Carrollton, Smithfield, Isle of Wight and the surrounding communities. Family and friends are encouraged to share condolences and remembrances at colonialfuneralhomesmithfield.com

Harry was one of the nicest, kindest, and most considerate people I've ever met. I had the fortune of working together with him on many projects, staying at his home, and jet skiing around the Chesapeake bay together. I will cherish those memories. The world just lost one of the "good guys" and heaven gained one. I will miss you Harry.
