Sidney Loxley Obituary

Sidney S. Loxley CHESAPEAKE - Sidney S. Loxley, M.D. passed away Sept. 30, 2009, in North Carolina. He was born in Ohio on April 22, 1942, the son of Harold and Ruth Loxley. Dr. Loxley is survived by his beloved wife, Carol of Chesapeake; two children, Natalie East and Justin Loxley; a son, Gabriel; five grandchildren, Jonathen Bailey, Heather Ireland, Logan East, Breonna and Tristin Loxley; one great- grandchild; his sister, Dr. Elaine Davis; and a nephew, Ralph Ritchie. He was predeceased by his brother, David Loxley. He was a graduate of George Washington University Medical School in 1968, served during the Vietnam War at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth as an intern and resident in Orthopedic Surgery, and then as a staff member at Naval Hospital in Bremerton, Wash. He maintained a private medical practice in Hampton Roads from 1975-2005. Dr. Loxley was involved in many community organizations including the Chesapeake Rotary Club. As a founding board member, he spearheaded the fundraising to build the first YMCA in Chesapeake. He was a longtime member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir, served as Lay Leader and President of the United Methodist Men, and contributed significant time and money to help build the education building. Throughout his life he contributed to many other worthwhile community organizations, believing strongly in helping others. There will be no viewing or visitation. A private memorial service will be conducted at a later date.

sidney loxley was one of the best physicians in hampton roads and certainly one of the best surgeons. he was a very compassionate man and would do all he could for his patients and friends.i,m blessed to have had him do my low back operation in 2002.he became somewhat of a role model for me.i will greatly miss him.

Sidney was my first cousin. We lost touch after our childhood, but he was part of my growing up. My sympathy to all the family.

Dr. Loxley was my doctor for many years and he was caring and understanding. My heart goes out to all of his family and I just wanted you to know that he was a great man.
