William Kitchin Obituary

William H. Kitchin III

Virginia Beach - William Hugh "Butchie" Kitchin, III, passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife, Radi, on April 8, 2017. Born in 1941 to W. Hugh and Jakie Kitchin, Butchie was a true son of Virginia Beach. A graduate of Virginia Beach High School and the College of William & Mary, he was a surfer, lifeguard, football player and coach, weight lifter, class president, great dancer, schoolteacher, husband, father, brother, grandfather, hotelier, skinflint, bagel maker, curmudgeon (on occasion), KA brother, motorcycle rider, river rafting entrepreneur, surprise benefactor, Lou Holtz protegee, former Virginia Beach City Councilman, and most especially a strong character and loyal friend. Butchie leaves behind the love of his life, Radi, and a large number of family and friends who will forever remember him with smiles and laughter. To honor Butchie, please support Famous Uncle Al's Hot Dogs at 2828 Virginia Beach Blvd., a small locally-owned business that was one of his favorite hangouts. Plans for a celebration of life and for a football scholarship at the College of William & Mary will be announced at a later date.

I worked with Butchie at the Sea hawk Motel and Kitchins Kitchen from 1963 to 1967. Butch was a fine person and a great guy to be around. I have thought about him often over the years. He will be missed by many.

My deepest sympathy to Radi and Butch's family. Our business relationship (helping with the sale of the families Duck properties) became a long-lasting friendship; he was a great guy and a person whom I admired very much.
