Charles Kaiser Obituary

CREVE COEUR - Charles F. Kaiser, 88, of 320 Carola St. passed away at 4:25 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

Born Dec. 11, 1921, in Madison to Charley and Etta Mae (Flick) Kaiser, he married Helen Hall on Oct. 31, 1943, in Pope County. She died on Aug. 4, 1993. He then married Hattie Satterwhite Smith on May 7, 1995, in Peoria.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Charles G. (Barb) Kaiser of North Pekin and Ted (Mary) Kaiser of Washington; one daughter, Karen "Vicki" Kaiser of East Peoria; two stepdaughters, Jan (Chuck) Thomas of Creve Coeur and Debbie (Andrew) Snoke of Grand Junction, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Clara Dixon of East Peoria.

Charles also was preceded in death by one grandson, Jerry Tharp; and one sister.

He had worked for Caterpillar Inc. for 35 years, retiring in 1985 as a machinist. He was a Creve Coeur school bus driver for many years. He also had been self-employed, owning and operating the Phillips 66 service station in Creve Coeur, and an excavating company, and a pool hall in Golconda.

Charles enjoyed working in his yard and camping at the Kentuckiana campground, where he was an avid bocce ball player.

His funeral will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home and Crematory in Creve Coeur, where visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Cremation will follow the funeral. Private burial of cremated remains will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Creve Coeur Fire Department.

Hattie,
Please know that I am thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers. I will miss not seeing Charlie at the campground and hearing him yell at "Bob"(my little grandson). Hopefully he and Gary can get a game of bocci ball going in heaven! I am here if you need anything. I love you!
