PEORIA - Dorothy Lydia Hagen, 97, of Sycamore, Ill., the mother of a Peoria woman, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, at Oak Crest DeKalb Area Retirement Center in DeKalb.
She was born May 19, 1909, in North Branch, Minn., the daughter of Otto and Lydia (Stolberg) Herreid. She graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., in 1929.
Dorothy married Lee C. Hagen on June 25, 1932, in North Branch.
She taught Latin and English in the public schools and helped her husband with the operation of Hagen Ace Hardware.
She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Sycamore, the Women's Circle, was active in the Altar Guild and had served as its president.
She volunteered her time at Sycamore Community Hospital and was a member of the PEO Chapter KJ.
She liked word puzzles and was very good at playing Scrabble. She loved to travel and enjoyed being with her friends and her family.
She is survived by her children, Marilyn (Craig) Ause of Ames, Iowa, Richard (Karen) Hagen of Sycamore and Carlotta (Gary) Bielfeldt of Peoria; eight grandchildren, Eric Ause of Chicago, Peter Ause of Des Moines, Iowa, Kristen (Jim) Ellias of Kettering, Ohio, Carl Hagen of Brooklyn, N.Y., Michelle (Josh) Holm of El Sobrante, Calif., David (Julie) Bielfeldt of Peoria, Linda (Ted) Greene of Northfield and Karen (Jeff) Wales of Peoria; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in April 1966; a brother, Wally; and a half sister, Norma.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, at Salem Lutheran Church, 1145 DeKalb Ave., Sycamore. A visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church prior to the funeral service. Her family invites you to a luncheon at the church following the funeral service. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery following the luncheon.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Salem Lutheran Church or DeKalb County Hospice in care of Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Home, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore, IL 60178.
