BRIMFIELD - Harold W. Fowler, 75, of Brimfield passed away at 2:15 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2011, at Rosewood Care Center in Peoria after being admitted on Tuesday.
He was born Aug. 14, 1935, in Naylor, Mo., the son of Charles and Clara (Deckard) Fowler. He married Vivian M. Canamore on June 8, 1957, in Peoria. She survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Wayne (Wendy) Fowler of Brimfield and Jim (Patty) Fowler of Eureka; three grandsons, Joel (Tammy) Fowler, Nick Fowler and Ryan Fowler, all of Brimfield; six granddaughters, Megan (Mike) Karl, Makayla, Marlana and Abigail Fowler, Mariah and Macy Millman; and one great-granddaughter, Bridget Fowler. Also surviving are one brother, Don (Charline) Fowler of Goodfield; three sisters, Shirley (Don) LeCheminant of Salt Lake City, Utah, Beverlee (Ed) Gilmore of Peoria and Linda Heine of Mackinaw; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved and cherished him.
He was "Grandpa Fowler" to many kids in the Brimfield area.
Harold worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 36 years. After graduating from the machinist apprentice program, he held various management positions and retired from the hose plant in January of 1991.
He met the love of his life when he showed up for their first date in his brand new 1956 Ford convertible. They preserved the car and drove it to their 50th wedding anniversary celebration. It was center stage at many car shows around the Midwest.
As a kid when the Cardinals were playing, his ear was glued to the radio. His dreams came true when as an adult he was able to sit in the stands. He could be found in St. Louis once or twice a year to watch his team with his family and friends. Harold loved the outdoors, and when he could no longer hunt and fish, he spent hours roaming around the farm in Brimfield, where they made their home for 39 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family would like to thank Dr. David Wang and the staff at OSF Neurological ICU, Forrest Park and the Rosewood Care Center for his excellent care. A special thanks to the hospice staff for their support.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Pastor Dan Waller will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the chapel. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.

Bev and Linda and families: -- Much sympathy, with very fond memories of Harold! what a sweetie!!!! You know, there weren't a great number of times that I was with him, but I have the such distinct memories of him. I think it was his "shy smile" and direct eye contact and his way of acknowledging me out of the thousands of your and your family's friends. He just made me feel special and I know he did that for everyone. That was him, passing on blessings to others, no matter who they were.
It must be difficult to say goodbye to a sibling........have faith, dear friends, of being with him again.
Love, jeanne
