Irene Hasenstein Obituary

Irene Hasenstein
PEORIA HEIGHTS - Irene deGeus Hasenstein, 90, of Peoria Heights passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 21, 2018, surrounded by her family.
She was born to Martin and Mabel (Mundt) deGeus on June 4, 1928, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Irene married her high school sweetheart, Donald E. Hasenstein, on June 25, 1949, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. They were
married for 68 years. He preceded in her death.
She is survived by one daughter, Nancy Hasenstein-Kleffman (Dean); three sons, Tom Hasenstein, Mark Hasenstein (Patty) and Kurt Hasenstein (Lynn); six grandchildren, Bill Hasenstein (Abby), Todd Hasenstein, Joe Hasenstein, Haley Harlen (Alex), Jake Hasenstein and Jenna Hasenstein; and three great-grandchildren, Cadence, Maddox and soon to arrive Kennedy.
Irene was a secretary at Bradley University, Great Central Insurance and Caterpillar before becoming a full-time wife and mother. Irene was known for the painting of the fire hydrants in Peoria Heights in the 1970s. She transformed the hydrants into cartoon characters and animals. She also started the DARE program at Peoria Heights Grade School. Irene put her artistic talents to work in a lathe art business called the "The Woodworks." The business allowed Irene and Don to combine their talents into creating a unique style of art that lasted for more than 25 years.
Our mother was the heart of our family. She encouraged us to our greatest potential and was always there when we needed her.
Per her wishes, cremation has been accorded and private family services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. We sincerely thank the hospice team for their kind and professional help as we walked through this journey with Mom.
The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co., Pekin/Peoria, is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at csmico.com.

Found this beautiful work or art and decided to look up the artist. So sad that she has passed, her and her Don. But this work will live in my home and be passed down to my children - my granddaughter loves it!. Beautiful obit. May they both rest in peace.

Our prayers and sympathy to you Tom and family with the loss of your mother. We were sorry to read as we have great memories of both your parents at Peoria Heights Public Library when I worked there...such a great couple and now they are together once more. We will see them again when we all see Jesus Christ face to face just as they have...this is our hope. We pray His peace for all of you..."He is our peace." Eph 2:14

I met Irene 24 years ago when I purchased one of her art works. She was full of energy and a lovely warm kind woman, I instantly liked her very much. She was on my mind because I was thinking I would love to buy another piece of her wood art work. I am so sorry for your loss she was a very memorable woman. This may seem an inappropriate request and I apologize but if I may, could I get in touch with someone if this could be possible. My name is Sharon Urbaniak 708- 562-4363 (H) 630-915-0534 (C) Thank you.
