Hazel Guthrie

Hazel Price Guthrie, 84, of Canadensis, passed away on Monday evening, Nov. 20, at the VNA Hospice House in East Stroudsburg. She was the loving wife of David G. Guthrie.

Born in East Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Clara Carlton Price and grew up at their resort, Spruce Mountain House.

A lifelong Monroe County resident, she was a strong supporter of environmental protection and dearly loved the Pocono countryside in which she lived.

During the 1990s, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels.

She loved animals and raised and trained St. Bernards. She was a good equestrian and always loved being at the barn.

She also enjoyed quilting and was a tremendous lover of books. She will be remembered as a great hostess to the many who entered her home.

In addition to her husband, David, she is survived by two daughters, Dr. Loree Guthrie of Canadensis and Mary Guthrie of Canadensis; a brother, Ned L. Price of Telford; a sister, June Price Young of Canadensis; and two granddaughters, Alexandra Mepham and Amanda Scalice of Canadensis.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Claude and Reeve Price.

There will be a visitation from 6:30 p.m. until the time of the service on Thursday, Nov. 30. The Rev. George Alt will conduct a Memorial Service at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Canadensis United Methodist Church in Canadensis. Cremation services were entrusted to the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of routes 940 and 390 in Paradise Valley.
