Ray P. Hess, 97, of East Stroudsburg, died Wednesday, July 21, in Palmerton Hospital. He was the husband of the late Hazel E. (Gray) Hess.
Born in Cherryville, he was the son of the late Preston O. and Annie (Balliet) Hess.
A 1926 graduate of East Stroudsburg University, Ray also received a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Muhlenberg College in 1935. He completed his education in 1955 with a master's degree in education from Lehigh University.
From 1926 to 1930, Ray was an elementary school principal with the Bristol Township schools in Bristol. After that, he was an elementary school principal with the Whitehall School District. Ray retired in 1969, after 43 years of service in education.
Surviving are one son, Robert P. of Levittown; and two grandchildren, Preston and Libby.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 26, in Union Cemetery, Slatington.

So sorry to learn of your Dad's passing. I have so many fond memories of him and sorry I could not see him to tell him how much he did for me. You can be very proud of all his accomplishments. Bob, sorry to learn about your Dad.
Bill says that he remembers him as a teacher, as well as a friend who took him along to Peck's Pond on many occasions. I remember him as a very friendy man. Sorry that we did not get up to see him like we wanted to. You and your children are in our thoughts and prayers.

I remember Mr. Hess fondly as the principal of Fullerton Elementary when I attended there K-4 in the 1960's. He was my 4th grade teacher, also. He left quite an impression on me as he was the first male teacher I ever had. May he rest in peace.
