Nancy Fischer Obituary

Nancy Carol Fischer, 93, passed away in the early hours of March 18, 2024. Raised modestly in Minneapolis, MN, Nancy, like many of her generation, experienced much of her childhood during WWII. Despite the sacrifices her family had to make and the hardships she endured, Nancy was always known for being fun-loving. She was sweet, but she was sassy, too, and she loved nothing more in those days than to play softball in the streets until curfew. Her father died right after the war, when Nancy was 15, and her mother went to work at Honeywell to support the family. Nancy and her three sisters all took part in raising their little brother, cleaning, cooking meals and working odd jobs to help their mother make ends meet. Nancy graduated from high school, followed by secretarial school when she was 20. She went on to work at the local telephone company and then the Soo Line Railroad as a comptometer operator. She loved her job, and her reputation as a detail-oriented, meticulous, and hard-working individual made her an asset to the company and a star employee for several years. One night, out with a girlfriend at the famed Murray's restaurant in Minneapolis, destiny tapped Nancy on the shoulder. A charismatic young man named Don Fischer asked her to dance. Don in those days, though only 27 years old, was making his way in real estate and had just purchased his first home. Don was starstruck by Nancy's self-effacing charm, her natural beauty, and her fun-loving spirit. Don had dated a model or two, but Nancy was the real deal. They were married four months later. Together Nancy and Don grabbed the brass ring and manifested an incredible life and legacy, eventually settling in California. There they grew Don's business, raised their kids to adulthood, and lived the American Dream. Don always said that Nancy could light up a room, and indeed she could. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, her sweet nature, her fiery determination, her love of laughter and fun, and for her unwavering devotion to her children. Nancy was one of a kind and she will always be missed and never forgotten. She is survived by her beloved son and daughter, David Fischer and Dawn Stein, and by her cherished grandsons Austin Fischer (Jenn), Jackson Fischer, and Alex Fischer. She is also survived by her former daughter-in-law Lisa Fischer, her brother Rodney Anderson, her sister-in-law Beverly Fischer, and by many nieces and nephews. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Don Fischer, her sisters and their husbands Beverly Vye (Bill), Betty Paulson (Ernie), and Bonnie Wasilak (George) her brothers-in-law John Fischer and George Fischer (Loretta) and by her treasured cocker spaniel, "Pups Racer."A celebration of Nancy's life will be held with family.

My aunt Nancy was a gem. I didn't get to spend nearly enough time with her. There are lots of memories of family time in Minnesota when I was a young child. Through the years, Nancy and Don always made a point of traveling from California to all of. the family weddings, which meant so much. Making the time and effort, equals love. On that note, when we were together, she always went out of her way to ask me questions about my life and was genuinely interested in what I was up to.
I LOVED visits to San Diego. We were always treated with royal hospitality. One particular visit I always recall was when I "dropped in" on them with 5 college friends! They took it in stride and welcomed the visit.
I remember my parents traveling to celebrate Nancy and Don's 50th wedding anniversary. It was an incredible party and filled with love and adoration, plus LOTS of roses!
It was also fun to hear of the stories from long ago of family time at the beloved Lake Mille Lacs. Those memories live on through photographs and fact that the beautiful lake shore is still in the family, It was a favorite Fischer gathering spot.
Nancy was very devoted and so proud of her kids and grandchildren. Her sparkle and spunk lives on through them. She was well loved and will never be forgotten.

I loved my aunt Nancy but sadly didn´t get to spend a lot of time with her. When we did get time together, she always took so much care to ask questions about my life and be genuinely interested. I loved her spark and infectious smile.
We had fun times when we all lived in Minnesota. I love all of the old photos of family fun at Lake Milacs.
I LOVED visiting Aunt Nancy and Uncle Don in beautiful California. I will always remember their gracious hospitality, especially when I "dropped in" on them with 6 of my college friends!!
She loved her kids and grandkids very much. Her sparkle lives on through them. We were all blessed to know and love her.

I have fond memories of Nancy. She was a great mom to Dave and Dawn. I remember swimming at Dave´s house in Poway playing wiffle ball in the pool. Pups would chase down the wayward wiffle balls and Nancy would serve us the best turkey sandwiches in the world. She always had the cutest smile and laugh. She loved Dave and Dawn more than anything in the world. I miss and love you Nancy. God bless and rest in peace. Your 2nd son scott weller

My aunt Nancy was everything described in her memorial - fun loving, sassy and extremely funny! When I was a kid, watching the four sisters (my mom was Betty) was like watching a comedy act. When the Anderson sisters got together, fun was always the agenda!

My fondest memories are the family bbq picnics at Columbia Park in Minneapolis. Don and Nancy, known for their debonair style, always arrived looking like they just stepped out of a fashion magazine, but with grill, food and beverages in hand. We kids had the run of the park, exploring every inch until it was time for dinner.

Nancy was the youngest of the sisters and she outlived her older siblings by several years (sassy to end, I am told). Condolences to Dawn, David and your entire family on the loss of this remarkable woman. May her memory be a blessing.
