Weldon Keating Obituary
Poway Weldon L. Keating Jr., age 78, of Poway, CA, passed peacefully on November 27th from pancreatic cancer. He was born in New Orleans to the late Weldon and Elizabeth (Owen) Keating. He earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette. It was there that he met his future wife, Sylvia Langlinais. After serving in the US Marine Corps, Weldon was a career Special Agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with postings in South Bend, IN, Detroit, Miami, and San Diego. In his later years, he was an avid fisherman and dedicated volunteer, often angling for trout at Lake Poway and manning the desk at the Friends of the Poway Library Bookstore. Weldon was a devoted family man and is survived by Sylvia, his wife of 54 years; his sons, Jeff (and Melissa) Keating of Cambridge, MA, and Greg (and Julia) Keating of Los Angeles; his daughter Julie (and Bryan) Kilpatrick of Poway; and seven grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Friends of the Poway Library, 13137 Poway Road, Poway, CA 92064. Weldon will be interred at Miramar National Cemetery on December 27th at 1pm, followed by a Celebration of Life reception at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Poway from 4-7pm. All are welcome.

Weldon was a very active member and officer of the Rancho Bernardo Anglers club. We will all miss him at our meetings and fishing trips. He was a good friend and genuine pleasure to have around.

I got to know Weldon,as we'd chat when I was out walking my dog in the neighborhood and he was sitting reading a book on the front porch.
It got to be kind of a pattern, where he'd call Romeo(my dog) into his front yard and I'd follow and sit and talk with Weldon.
We found we both had a love for fishing and reading. That's where he introduced me to friends of the library(Poway) and encouraged me to go there for any reading material I might need.He also volunteered his time there.
I thoroughly enjoyed our front yard chats and miss them dearly. He was truly what being part of a community was all about and made me feel welcome every time I passed his way.
