Richard Moon Obituary

PORTSMOUTH-Richard Kendrick Moon, better known as "Moonie", 70, lost his life on December 16, 2020, at Grant Medical Center with multiple injuries as a result of a hit and run accident. Moonie spent his entire life in Portsmouth, graduating from Portsmouth High School in 1968. Preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Lyn Moon, and is survived by two sisters, Margaret (Peggy) Fain of Columbus, Ohio and Pamela Estepp Fuller of Durango, Colorado and more importantly many patrons, business owners, and friends who have watched over him for the last 50 years. Moon loved walking and music and found joy in playing the piano for others. Stories and memories will be heard for years to come. Rich's family is mercifully indebted to all those who have cared for him.

A Memorial service will be in the spring of 2021 for friends and family to celebrate Rich's life. Services are under the direction of Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth.

In lieu of flowers, or if anyone would like to donate in his memory, donations can be made to the funeral home to help with Rich's services and for a headstone.

I would associate him as friend, but from the time i was a youngster to the time where i'm in my mid twenties i still consider Rich family, This is extremely late to add condolences or memories.

He will be missed, not just by those who have lived in this town of portsmouth but by people in the neighboring towns aswell. The joy he brought to people isn't something that's easily replicated, He was unique in that aspect. I will miss hearing his stories and the passing greetings everytime we walk the same paths. But i'm Also glad he's not suffering, If anyone had the choice to choose between living in pain or passing on with no pain. I think we all know which choice to choose for those we care about and love. May his remaining family be at peace, and may his close friends feel comfort in knowing that he's smiling up there in that castle in the sky, tapping the keys to destiny on his antique piano.

Rich will be missed in P-Town, his special ways. He always spoke to me and called me by name. He would always asked about colleagues I worked with. May Father bless his Family.

Richard was a very dear friend to all of us at Kroger’s , I worked at Starbucks, and Richard would come in and get his Coffee every day . Sometimes people would pay for his coffee. People would come in and leave money for Richard or give us a Starbucks card for him . I believe that Richard had more friends than any one of us in Portsmouth. I Loved to listen to him play the Piano . He was Brilliant, never missed a note . And anytime that he would see me , he would always say Hello Linda , how are you doing today . I will surely miss him , as much as others will . Richard never hurt a soul . Rest In Peace , Richard . May the Angels hold you tight .

I knew who Rich was in my early years but really didn't "know" him till many years later. I sat with him many times at Bdubs to share a beer and the myriad stories Rich had to tell. He was always a delight. His walk was unmistakable and he will certainly be missed.

Another one of our class of '68 members gone... Rich was definitely one of our most memorable classmates who touched many lives by his uniqueness.

Family and friends, may you all find comfort in your good memories and the thought that Rich has no more pain to suffer.

Pam and Peggy, you have my deepest sympathy and prayers for God's comfort and blessings. Our lives on 28th street seem so long ago; however, the time we spent growing up remains very real in my memory.
Rich and I were born in the same year and spent 12 years going through school together. Musically talented and outgoing, he was a friend to many over the years. He will be missed by many. Rest in Peace Our Friend.
