Marlene Rhode Obituary

Rhode, Marlene B. Age 79, a longtime Hobart resident, passed away on December 31, 2014. She attended Indiana State University where she met her future husband, Dusty. They were married on June 15, 1957 and then moved to Northwest Indiana. She retired from the Portage Township School System as a Media Assistant after 26 years of service. Marlene was a member of Nativity of Our Savior Parish in Portage where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was also a member of Hobart Kiwanis Club and St. Mary Medical Center Auxiliary. She remained active after retirement, traveling with friends, volunteering, playing bridge, golf, and spending quality time with her grandchildren. Marlene was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest "Dusty" Rhode in October of 1999; parents, Albert and Irene Ebeling; brothers-in-law, Marion Graves and Richard Concialdi; nephew, Darrel Milbrandt. She is survived by daughters, Kim (Terry) Milner of Portage and Keri (Brian) Dornbusch of Colorado; grandchildren, Shelby Milner, Chase and Lindsey Dornbusch; sister, Donna Concialdi of Arizona; sister-in-law, Beverly Graves of Kentucky; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins; her special friend, Ted Charlebois, and many wonderful friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 10:00a.m. at Nativity of Our Savior Parish, 2949 Willowcreek Rd., Portage, IN, Rev. Andrew Corona officiating. Visitation at the church on Tuesday from 9:00a.m. until the time of mass. Friends and relatives are invited to a celebration of Marlene's life on Monday, January 5th from 4:007:00p.m., at Innsbrook Country Club, 6701 Taft Street, Merrillville, with a time of sharing at 4:45p.m. In lieu of flowers and plants, contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice of Porter County, the Boys and Girls Club in Portage, or to the Riley's Children's Foundation. Thanks to Cousin Donna, I was able to spend some time with Marlene this past summer. We even went to Lake Dale Carlia where the old cottage used to be. I am grateful for this time sharing memories with Marlene, Donna & Dawn. I know that Marlene will be greatly missed. Kim, Keri & families, you have my deepest sympathy.
